The convention was called to or der by Jordan Nixon, temporary chairman, with J. W. Moseley.as temporary, secretary. There were contesting delegations from the Second Ward but the com mittee oh' credentials appointed by the chair seated the VanAmringe delegation. W. H. Four delegates for each township were appointed to the State,Congress ioilal and Senatorial conventions. Kev. r.uclen Holmes. Rev. Lucien Holmes died at Char lotte on Wednesday and on Thurs day his remains were interred. Mr. Holmes was a priest in the Protestant Episcopal Church. The Charlotte papers speak of him as having been a native of Bladen county, but this is, we think, a mis take. We seel sure that he was a native of Sampson. He practised law aud ! taught school here about 10 years ago, but afterwards entered the ministry. He was an exceeding ly handsome m an, with a very pleas ing address. He was here with his father, who was also a lawyer and had an office inhe building corner Front and Princess streets. now oc cupied by Mr. I. Shrier. The 'elder Mr. Holmes was a frequent contri butor to the columns of theJourhal. The Charlotte News' of yesterday says: "The funeral services over the body of the late Rev. Lucien Holmes were conducted from St. Peter's Episcopal Church this morning, by Rev. Jos" B. Cheshire, assisted by Rev. E. A. Osborne, in the presence of a large and sympathetic audience. The deceased pastor was bestlcnown in Charlotte in connection j with his educational work with Rev. Mr. Bronsou.j He was a philanthropist of no iuean degree, and gave all his money to charitable purposes: The pall bearers were: Capt. Thomas H. Haughton, Col. H. Jones, Capt. John Wilkes, Mr. P. D. Walk- er, Mr. Baxter Moore, Dr. J. m. Davidson and Mr. J. K. P. Neathery. Keplna! nouao With Cockroaches, Beetles, i water bugs, &c, is not pleasant. The most effective and permanent remedy is--fpr two ( or three nights to sprinkle ROUGNON RATS dry powder unmbred, in, about ancl down the sink and drain pipe; scatter it well but thinly over the sinkJ First thing in the morn ing wash it all away down tbe drain pipe, when all the insects from gar ret to cellar will disappear. The se cret of this is in the fact that wher ever the bugs or insects may be durlng'the day, they must go to the sinks for water during the nigh They can't stand ROUGH ON RATS In their water.
