Somewhat more than a week ago George Ramsden and John Koch had a fight near the corner of Prin cess aim Second, streets, in which the former was badly beaten; in fact so completely used up that he had to be taken to the City Hospital for treatment. The patient grew alarm ingly vorse and yesterday afternoon a cons utation was neia oy urs. Wood and Lane, who decided that he was suffering from an effusion of the brain. Ramsden -died at half- past 12 o'clock this morning. ...... When the condition of Ramsden became known to Mayor Fowler he had Koch arrested xand committed to await further developments. Yes terday forenoon Koch's counsel ap plied, for a writ" of habeas corpus, which was granted by JudgeMeares, to beheard before him at 11 o'clock this forenoon. Ramsden was an Englishman by birth, a boiler maker by trade, and was employed for a time at the rail road shops in this city. During the past season he had been keeping a liquor saloon at Wrightsville in con nection with Koch. It was call ed in accordance with an act of the General Assembly of .North Caro lina, ratified Feb. - 21st, 1867, being an ct amending the act passed in 1833 to incorporate the Wilmington and Raleigh Railroad. The meeting was called to order by the President, Mr. Warren G. Elliott, it being the first time he has ever presiuea at a stocKnoiuers meeting since his election to that responsible position. He stated the object of tho meeting to be to see what action the stockholders would take in regard to building new branch roads which had' been au ttiorized by, the General Assembly, and concluded by calling Mr. D. G. Worth to the chair, and Mr.-Jas. F. Post, Jr, to atft as Secretary. A committee to verify proxies was then appointed, consisting of Messrs. II. Walters, W. Calder and the sec retary of the meeting. They re ported 17.859 shares represented in person aud by proxy, and tne meet ing was declared duly open for the transaction of business.
