To b Tried for Disorderly Conduct. .AboutiJ o'clock this afternoon a telephone message was received at the City Hall stating tha t there was a man on the corner of Front and Dock streets who had committed murder. Three police officers were quickly sent to the spot and when they arrived a colored man by the name of Jake. Thompson pointed out a white man and said, "That is Snow who killed a mail lrere ten years-ago." The officers arrested both men and 'carried them to the City Hall. ' On arriving there fliey fouod out that jaKe.wasinionca.ieu and that they had the wrong luau. A long and careful correspondence on the part of the mauagers of tlie State Fair has resulted in making a definite contract, with a forfeit, for a balloon ascension. The contract is with Prof. H. It. Ward, who is to make three" ascensions and three parachute leaps. The first will be on Tuesday, the 14th. ' - Kastern Association. Large crowds attended the sess ions of tho Eastern Baptist Associa tion at Riley's Creek church this week, i Rev. Dr. Pritchard' and Rev. R. E. Peele and several laymen from this city were in attendance, as was also Rev. Dr. C- Durham, Corres ponding Secretary of the State Mis sion Board, who added much to the enjoyment of the occasion. . Dr. Pritchard will return to the city thia afternoon. Advancement of the New Kail road. i Yesterday's Ne wbern Journal says: A party of gentlemen connected with the Onslow railroad were in the city yesterday. They were the contractor, Mr. Thos. A. Mclntyre, of New York, the general manager, Mr. H. A. Whiting, of Wilmington, and Messrs. Henry E. Knox and Wilbur Mclntyre, of.New York, and Dr. R. W. Ward, of Jacksonville, N. C. They came from Wilmington by the railroad as far as built, and by private conveyance the remainder of the way, and they report that about 32miles of the road has been completed, -which brings it within about 18 miles of Jacksonville. The road has been graded all the way to Jacksonville, and the" surveyors are now twelve miles this side of it, and will reach Polloksville by the mid dle of next week. Anpolntm ents to Speak. Hon.
