A meeting of the Democratic vot
ers of the First Ward was held last
night at Phajnix Hall"' Mr. Geo. L.
Morton was called to the chair, and
Mr. J. C. Strauss was appointed sec

ject of the meeting was to ascertain
the choice of the ward for an Alder
man to fill the vacancy -on the
Board caused by 'the

A motion was adopted that a bal
lot be taken, the person receiving' a
majority of the votes cast to be re
commended for Alderman.
Tellers were appointed and Dr. A.
L. Scott, Win. H. Strauss, Esq., and
