The flay To-Night. r Booties' Baby, .whicli is to be pre sented at the Opera House to night by a strong company, scored a big success in Raleigh as the following from Wednesday's Nctcs and 06- server will show: i Booties Baby was presented at Metropolitan Hall last night to one of the lirgest audiences that has fcl led Metropolitan Hall this season. It is one of the most beautitul and touching plays ever written, and was well rendered last night. . Little Miss Josie Arthur as Mignon capti vated tne audience, both by her ex quisite acting and her pretty sing ing. The company is upon the whole one of the best that ever appeared in Raleigh and every part was well sustained. At the close of the performance numerous requests were made that the company appear here again to night and the managers consented to do so and Booties' Baby- will again be presented to-night. Now, Who Was Tills? One of our Water street friends was out hunting in the river swamps yesterday, when a large bird flew across the river and alighted Avithln 50 yards of where he stood and then ran off a short distance before it arose and flew away. There was another not far off at which he also disdained to shoot. He thought they were both turkey buzzards. He had somelinging doubts in his mind however, and last night at the depbt he spoke of the circumstance and described the birds. They were tur keys andjDf this ha was jsoon con vinced. He was mad enough with himse1f,it may well be imagined, but he put up with the jokes and quips of the balance of the party until one fellow trfed to make him believe that thejiead light on the approach ingirain was the moon and then lie got mad and , smote him, hip and thigh. " Mr; Peele at'Bnrgaw. A correspondent a't Burgaw sends us a very interesting report of the services held in that town by Rev. R. E." Peele, pastor;of the Brooklyn Baptist Church in this city. He says: 'We have been blessed with a general outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Preaching, commenced on Monday, the 17th inst.. ad con tinued until Monday night, the 21th, when the meetings were closed by a sermon to the colored people by Mr. Peele, preached in the Court House, the church not being large enough to hold the people. I have never attended a series of meetings where everything was more happily con ducted than in this instance.. The various denominations all met, from time to time, botlrnrght and day, to hear the word of God as expounded by this eloquent divine. There was nothing to mar the feeling of peace and brotheftiood which prevailtrd at every service. Mr. Peele simply preached the truth as it U In Christ. There is certainly something really wonderful about his preaching. Mechanics Home Association. The Union Meeting of the Eastern Baptist Association began itssession at Brooklyn Baptist Church at 10 o'clock this forenoon. There'are 19 churches in the Association 11 of which were represented. The intro ductory sermon was preached by Rev. Mr. Wooteoafter which an or gonization was effected by the elect ion of Mr. John T. -Bland; as Presi dent and Mr. D. J. Corbett as Secre tary. The meeting being organized,:the various necessary committees were appointed, and a plan of procedure adopted, lev. R. E. Peele, pastor of Brooklyn Baptist Church, then made an address of welcome in a brief and- characteristic speech, which was 'responded, to i a fitting terms by the President, Mr. Bland. The meeting wits harmonious and adopted such plans as would insure the greateskatpiount of work in the shortest possible time. It was decided th tt .the meetings should begin at 10 a. m. and con tinue until noon, and then begin at 7 o'clock p. ni- and adjourn when thev eret readv ddrincr the contin- rc- . uance of the meeting.
