Oct. ‘J. 1861. Obittary Notici->.—We have heretofore given notice, repeatedly, that we charge for obituary notices of un reasonable lengih, and for resolutions of respect: be cause that kind of reading, we liave much occasion to know, is not often more agreeable to readers than to editors of papei*s. As it generally happens, however, that after charging and paying postage on the account for warded, we never gel {>aid, we now give notice that we will insert nothing of the son hereafter unless accom panied by t he cash. ! .\lways excepting in the case of deceased volunteers, when we reijuire no pay.) Hear in mind, therefore, that we will insert obituary notices and resolutions, not exceeding TU words, gratis. For all over 70 word-, one cent a woril, which niui;t be paid be fore the notice will be put in type. To (he SherifTs of the several Counties of' XoHh Carolina: IT is deemed not only desirable but an imperative du ty, I hat early nieasure.s be taken to accutnulata a supply of winter clothing for the North Carolina troops now in the field. The scarcity of material for sale in tlie State, and the uucertainty of procuring supplies j from abroad, force us to rely on our domestic resources ^ It is tiioiight that every family can spare one or more Blankets without personal inconvenience, or a pair of NSoi.k'H Sock*. ;ind it is believetl that for such a j ur pose a call would I e resj>onded to with alacrity. it has therefore been concluded that an appeal for ■ this purpi^si* be made to the great body of the people, and with that view I have to ret^uest the Sheriffs of the ■Several (’oiiiities to act as agents of I lie Statu, to solicit a contribution of this kit»d. To this end they are requested to circulate this no tice, and employ agents in every distri«l of their coun'y to further the matter. All contriliutions of this kind may be boxed and ,for- wariled to the nearest Railroad Depot., and ilue inforiua- tion thereof ^eut to the (Joverr.or. T'le Sheriffs are further requested lo furnish to the Governor a list of the d.inors. The transportation of these donations will be at the expense of the State—and the bill for suah service should ht) dulv forwrtrded for payment. HENRY T. CLARK, Governor of N. In cheerful compliance with the several requests con- tiiine‘1 in the :)ltove Circular of llis Kxcellency Govermr , (.'1-irk, the under-iigned. Sheriff of Cumberland, has made provision within the several Districts of the Coun ty for ih'' reception of cuntribniions for the provision and comfort of our call iut soldiers. .\s it is our jTide to know that the gooil old county of Cumberl'ind has sent forth h» r best and Itravest sons i to the b-ittle-field, so will it be to us gratifying to feel i that we have mitiistered to their necessities and cheer- : fully contributed to tlieir wants. It i therefore un- I necessary to make any appe; ' to the charities of a peo ple w^iose ge' enjiis and w iriii liearts ever buftt respon sive to ihe citlls of j'atriotic iluty. Alahama—Messrs WilUam L Vancey, C C Clay THE FUNEKAL OF PRINCE ALBERT. From the London 'I'iiues, Dec. 23. Yesterday, with little ot the pomp and pagean try ot a State'Cereuionial, but with every ouf, ward m'ark oi‘ respect, and with all the solemnity which ; betitted his high station and his public virtues. ; the mortal remains of the husband ol our 4ueen were interred in the l-ast resting place of Eng land’s sovereigns—tho Chapel Royal of St George’s, Windsor. By the express desire of his Royal liighiicss, tiie lunerul was ot the plainest and most private character; but in the chapel, to i do honor to the obsecjuies, were assembled all the I choicest men of the Statu; and throughout Eng- ! land, by every sign of sorrow and mourning, the I nation manifested its sense of the loss which it ! has sustained. Windsor itself wore an aspect of i the m >st profound gloom. Every shop was closed, j and every blind drawn down. The streets were ! silent and almost deserted, and all wha_ appeared abroad were dressed in the deepest mourning. The great bell of Windsor Castle clanged out its J doleful sounds at intervals from an early hour, and minute bells were tolled also at St. John’s j church. The weather was in character with the j occasion; a chill, damp air, with a dull, leaden : sky above, increased the gloom which hungoverall j At eleven o'clock a strong force of the A divi- I sion took possession of all the avenues leading to ; the Chapel Royal, and from that time only the ' guests specially invited and those who were to I take part in the ceremonial were allowed to pass. I Shortly ai'terwards a guard of honor of the Gren- . adier Guards, of which regiment his Royal H?gh- nesd was colonel, with the colors ot the regiment shrouded in crape, marchod in and took up its I position before the principal entrance to the j Chapel Royal. Another guard of honor iVom the same regimei. was also on duty in the (quadrangle, at the entrance to the Jitate apartments. They j were speedily followed by a squadron of the Se- , eond i>ife Guards, dismounted, and Hy two coin- I panies of the Fusileer Guards, who were drawn j up iu single file along each side of the road by i which the procession was to pass, from the i^'or- ’ man gateway to the chapel door. The officers I wore the deepest military mourning—scarves, ! sword knots, and rosettes of crape. In the Home : Park was stationed a troop of horse artillery, ; which commenced tiring minute guns at the end i of the Longwalk, advancing slowly until it reach ed the casUe gates ju.st :it the close ot the cere- : inony. The ministers, the'ofiicer.s of the (Queen's , household, and other distinguished personages who had been honored with an invitation to at tend the ceremonial, reached W indsorby a special train trom Paddington. The Earl of D«by, the Archbishop of Cant,erbi\ry, Earl Russell, and the Duke of liuccleuch were among the first to make their appearance, anti as they alighted at the door of the chapel they were received by the proper officials and conducted to the seats appointed for i them in the choir. In the great quadrangle were drawn up the hearse iind the mourning coaches, and, all the pre- Arkdvsat—Messrs Robert W Johnson, Chas | parations having been completed within the castle, B Mitchell. . the procession began to be tijrmed before twelve Florida—Messrs James M Baker, A E Mas- o’clock. The Princo of j Wales and the other royal mourners assembled in I- the Oak Room, but di«l not form part of the pro- ! ce.ssion. They weje conveyed to the chapel in private carriages before the coffin was pla§ed in the hearse, pa.ssing through St. George’s gateway into the lower ward. In the first carriage were the Prince ot Wales, Prince Arthur, aiid the Duke of Saxe Cobur^i. 'I'he Crown Prince of Prussia, the X^uke of Brabant, and the Couftt of Flanders followed in the next; and in the others were the Due de Nemours, Prince i.(Ouis of Hesse, iVince Edward ot >axe-Weimar, and .ne .Mahara jah Dhuleep Singh, with the gentlemen of their respective suites. Scarcely hail they alighted at the door of -Wolsey's chapel, from which they were conducted through the chapter room to the door of the (’hajiel Royal, to be in readiness to meet the coffin, whe-i tlie first minute gun fired in the di.-^fance, and the rattle of the troops re versing arms, anuounced tliat the procession had started, and e.xactly at twelve o clock the Srst mourning coach moved li'om under the Norman •rateway. First came nine mourning coaches, each drawn by four horses, conveying the jihysi- cians, equerries, and other members of the house hold ot the late Prince.
