The manufacture of bomb shells i^ as fol-
(iows: Tfie shell is first filled up with old fanhion-
ed rotind leaden bullct-; melted sulphur is then
poured in to fill tho iat rsticcs and bind the bul

a kind of lathe, and a cylindrical hole of the ex-

t bullets and the sulphur; this cavity is filled

shell is water and weather proof. When taken
for use, tho gunner, by means of a small steel in

is arresteil. Largo shells of eight ov ten inches
arc filled with powder only, and bursting do ex

powder, extending through a brass plug, screwed
