intend at the place ot rendesvous as required

3. Every minister of religion authorized to
preach according to the rules of his chnrch,
and who, at the pp^i'rvge of thia aot, sliail be
regularly employed in the discharge of his
ministerial duties; superintendents and phy
sicians of asj’lums for tho deaf and dumb
and blind and of the insane; one editor for
ejich newspaper being published at tho time
of this act, and such employees as said edi
tor may certify, on oath, to be indispensable
to the publication of such newspaper; the
public printer of tho Confederate and State
:Kivernmonts, aud such ioumeymen print
er* as tbe said public printer snail certify,
on oath, to be indis]>ensable to perform the
prublie TJTinting; one skilled a|X)thecary in
each hpothecary store, who was doing busi
ness RS such on tbe 10th day of Oct’r 1863,
and has continued said business, without
intermission,'since that period; all physi
cians over the age of 30 years, who now are,
and for the last 7 yoars have been, in the
actual and regular practice of their profes
sion, but tbe term phye.ician shall not in
clude doDtiats: all presiden:ts and teachers
of colleges, tneological seminaries, acade
mies and Qohools, who have been regularly
engaged aa such for two years next before
tho passage of this act: I*rovided, that the
benefit of this exemption shall extend to
those teachers only wnose schools are com
posed of 20 students or more. All superin
tendents of public hospitals, established by
law before the passage of this act, and sucn
physicians and nurses therein as such su-
porintendentB’shall certify, on oath, to be
indispensable to the proper and efficient
management thereof.
4. There shall be exempt one person as
owner or agriculturist on each farm or plan
tation upon which there are now, and were
on tho 1st day of Jan’y last, f5 able-bodied
field-handfl, between the £*.go8 of 16 and 50,
upon the following conditions:
1. Thia exemption shall only bo granted
in cas33 in. which tiiere ia no while male
adult on the farm or plantation not liable to
military gervicernor unless tho person claim
ing the exemption was on the 1st day of
Jan’y 1864, either tho owner and manager
or overseer of said plantation, but in no case
shall more than one person be exempted for
one farm or plantation.
2. Such person shall first execute a bond,
payable to the Confederate States of Amer
ica, in such form, and with such security,
and in such penalty as the Secretary ot War
may prescribe, conditioned that 1« will de
liver to the Government ac some railroad
depot, or such other place or places as may
be designated by the Secretary of War,
within 12 months next ensuing, 100 poondfl
of bacon, or, at the election of the Cfovora-
ment, ita 0(^uivalent in pork, and 100 lbs. of
net beet (said beef to be delivered on foot,)
for each able-bodied slave on said farm or
plantation, within tho above said ages, whe
ther said slaves in tho field or not, which
said bacon or pork and beef shall he paid
for by the GuTerament at the prices fixed
by the Coramisai oners of the State undor the
Joipressment act: Provided, that when the
