THE WILMINGTON POST, '.WILMINGTON N. C, Sunday Moeming. Oct. 3. 1880. P1NAFOK1CALLY CONSIlERED. llaiiccclt the leader of the Demo crasoe. ; . .' When I war a lad I. went to scbool, ' ' Where Uncle Ham sends many a fool; 1 polished up my button and swept my room, For which I was rewarded wiib a Demo cratic boom. I polirhed up my buttons no carefullee That no w 1 am a leader of the Denioerasee. In right about face I made such a mark That they gave me the post of an adjutant clrfe. I served the Ed. witb a smile so bland, And 1 copied all the order In a big round hand. In right about face I waa so free That they made me the leader of the De niocrasee. As a -White cadet I made sucli a name That a pet of the South I soon became; 1 wqre white gloves and a bran new suit. At flie bottom of my class at the Institute. Ho they dropped all their Issues and nom inated me. And now I am the leader of the Democra sce. My political Ignorance became so great That they took mo up as a candidate; So why shouldn't I obey the party's "call" Since I shall never have to think for my sell at all? j ' I know so little lliat they rewarded me l!y making me the leader of the Democra- ee. . . .. or civil life I know Ijo more Then Tlldeu know ol military lore, So they uhandonud him and bis great re form," ' ... And lied tome ''any port Jn astoim!" They abandoned all their leaders and begged of mo To come and bo the leader of the Demo crasee. 1 ii the Union war I fought so well That my itanio is greeted with tho "rebel yell." Of a"inan on horseback" they bad such a feur . ' That lliey nominated me which is rather queer. 'Twus u riht-about fnco td nominate, me, And now 1 am the leader of the l)emocra- hee. ' Now, Americans all, whoever you may be, I'll give you u bit of strategee: Never go to any but a military echoo', And bo careful to be guided by this Demo cratic rule Keep away from the polls ard let politics be, And you all may be leaders of the Dcmo crimce. . . . . " Inter-Ocean. An engine attached to the gravel train on the Wilmington and Weldon Railroad, while engaged in hauling sand to fill the railroad wharf, was ac cidently thrown from the track Tues day morning, and precipitated nearly into the river. The engineer and fire rnan'cBcap.ed without injury. Those people whose hair is turning gray should uso Hall's Vegetable bicil- ian Hair llenewer to restore it to its natural color and vigor. .
