" 5,000 acres of pine land, all in one body. Those who have such land will please communicate with me at once, giving full description of the earner j W. T. Canaday- Hoard of Aldermen. The Board of Aldermen met in reg ular monthly session last night. ' An amendment to thjs list of appro priations", made at the meeting . on the 17th of April, was adopted, striking out the appropriation of $600 for the services of a special detective. Appropriations as made by the Board of Audit aud' Finance, were read, when Alderman Fishblato protested against the increase of salary to the Clerk of of tho Board of Audit and Finanance. A committee report was made, that a grade was now being established of Third utrcot, from Market to Castle. The matter of the piazza of the Daw son buk building wa referred back to the committee to report plan and spe r citicutions fur changing the entrance to said buidinjr. '-'': ; -"Iu the matter of a Fifth Ward en gine house, the committee reported that there is no house that could be fur uished, as the city has no titIe1ito the property. , , ' Further time wasgranted the com mittee on Fire Department in the mat ter of the petition of the Little Colum bia Fire Engine Columbia. Also, to the Sanitary committee in the matter of removing the city pound. Also, to tlio Maikct committee concerniugtbe petition for a Third wardmarket house. Also, to the Finance committee con. cerning, the claim of Geo. llamas h .Co.- -' :; r - Aldermen Fishblatc, Bear and Bo ney were appointed a committee to con fer with the Board of Navigation, with reference to opening the1 dock at the foot of Chesnut street. t j Mr. E. A. Orrcll was elected clerk of the market. i'clition of tho Wilmiugtou Light Infantry Company for the use of the city hall for a festival, free of charge, was granted. The chairman i of the Board of Coun ty Commissioners appeared before the Board and s tatcd that the assessors for the county would start out on their du ties to-day aud requesting the city to furnish vehicles for tUcir accommoda tion. The matter was referred to the Mayor with power to act. Aldermen Boffey, Deliosset and Bear were appointed a committee on rates of wharfage. A contract for building carta and wagons was awarded to It. l McDou gald, and for harness to J. II. Mallard. Several petitions, for various purpo bcs, were received and referred to ap propriate coiuiuittees.
