The glass was 15 by 38, and the contractor paid $15 for it. We are pretty sure that he was neither a poor man's son or a little "nig ger," or he would .have "been arrested and hauled up before the Mayor for be ing guilty of such outrageous conduct. No name. A colored man by the name of Hoop er, residing on the Gape Fear rirer, about fifteen miles above the city, in Brunswick county, went out to shoot a hawk a few days ago, and, while await ing the appearance of his game, rested one of his hands directly over the muzzle of the gun, when his knee or some other object came in contact with the trigger and the weapon was dis charged, the whole load of shot being driven through the palm of lis hand and out at the back, tearing and lac erating the haa? very badly. At last accounts the wound was doing much better than was expected. Meeting or Board of Audit aud Finance. A regular meeting of the Board of Audit and Finance was held Monday evening last. Present, Mr. R. J. Jones, Chairman, end Messrs. Wm. Calder, W. It. Kenan and Jno. S. McEacbern. The salary ot the City Attorney was increased to $500 perj annum; to take eflect from the date of election of the present incumbent. .The recommendation of the Board of Aldermen that the building now used ai a market house, corner of Fifth and Castle streets, be rented by the city at $75 per annum, and that the building be put in propar 'condition for use the stalls to.be rented as provided in tfie market ordinance was approved. Vfhe petition of the Hibernian Asso ciation to be relieved of the payment of city lax for 1882, on the property re cently purchased by the Association on Third street opposite the City Hall 'was granted. The bond of John W. Perdew, as standard keeper, in the sum of $200, with Messrs. W. M. Poisson, H. Vol lers and W. M. Parker as sureties, was approved and accepted. The bond of John H. Pogb, aclrk of the market and cattle weigher, in the sum of $200, with T. P. Sikes, as surety, was presented, when it was de clared tobe the sense of the Board that there should be two sureties. Tho bill of Richard B. Clowe, for furnishing 102 street signs, amounting to $4)5.32, was referred to the commit tee on Streets and Wharves- of the Board of Aldermen, for approval. The bill"-of B. H- Grant A Co.. amounting to $o0.25, for plumbing for the Fourth Street market house, was referred to the committee on Markets and Fees of .the Board ;of Aldermen, for "approval. Mr. Kenan jnoved thatjthe receJt ac tion of the Board in the matter of open ing Chesnut street dock be reconsidered. The motion was adopted; Mr. Calder, of tho Board, vothing in the negative. Mr. Joneo then moved that the mat ter be referred back to the Board of Aldermen, with the ' request that esti mates be furnished of the cost of de oolishiog lhe present wharf drawing t'le piling, cleaning out the docV, build necewary walls on thrlfe sides of the jjck, and building an engine way on one side with slide for loading engines on flats, similar to the one now at said wharf. The motion waa adopted. - , . Alderman Booey, chairman of the committee on Fire Department from the Board of Aldermen, appeared be fore the Board and presented a commu nication from Captain John L. Boat wright, chairman of a committee of the Wilmington Steam Fire Engine Com pan? No. 1, addressed to Alderman Boney and making the following og geetions: That a new set of harnesa be purchased for the company's rbose reel; that the horse be fed by the city. Inasmuch as the recommendations of Captain Boatwrigkt bad not received the approval of the committee on Fire Department, of the Board of Aldermen, and as the appropriation for the Fire Department as it now stands was ap proved by the Board of Audit and Finance u pom the recommendation of the Board or Aldermen, it waa soggtn td to Alderman Boney by Mr. Jon, that it would be proper before any al teration u mad in the appropriation, ?t tit rset should endaat from the Board of AKlermen, and that the matter should belaid be W the Hoard for its action,. The Board then ad jonrned. - Captain E. J.Pennypacker is having his compress dock dredged out pre paring for large ships in the fall. Some time in Joan' last Mr. M. G. Chadwick's store, at Oastle Hayne,ia this conntTi was broken open and rob bed of a number of articles. Recent ly a colored man by the name of Adam Green, who bad been wader suspicion," was arrested for stealing two sUrer watches from Mr. Chad wick and a razor from Mr. John Rogers, who occupied a room in Mr. C.'s store, which articles were disposed of in Pender county; Green was committed for preliminary examination, which took place before Justice Gardner. The articles were identified and the defendant wju re quired to give a j as tiled bond ia the' snm of $100 for his appearance at the next term of the criminal court. Oar old friend, Pat. H. .Harden, in forms us that he will soon begia the erection ot a large two story building, on his lot on Third street between Mar ket and Princess streets, to be occupied by him as a carriage repository, wood shop, blacksmith shop, and harness shop. He is compelled to do this on account of his constantly increasing business; when finished it will be one of the largest, most convenient and comfortable workshops in the stated Hayden has an eye to the comfort of those employed by him, as well as to convenience and the outside appear ance of things. He is prospering in this world's good's, and deserves to do so, for he does his work well, and on the principle of live and let live. Adrian was called to the chair in the absence of the President, Maj. C. M. Stedman, and Capt John L. Wooster was made Secretary of the meeting. The fcllowing frentlemen, the old offi cers, were re-elected for the ensuing year, viz: President Chas. M. Stedman. Superintendent Henry Hsar. a , Secretary and Treasurer John L. Wooster.- , ' The reports submitted show that the affairs of the Company are in an ex cellent and encouraging condition, so much so thaf a dividend of 5 per cent, on the capital stock of the Company was declared. The President Draws $30,000 1st the Lottery. . -. This would be the "B063" advertise ment should the President on his visit to the Louisville Expositioa purchase a ticket in the Commonwealth Dis tribution Co., there, and in witnessing the' pepular monthly drawing which takes place July 31st, see the number on his ticket pulled from the wheel with the $80,000 prize drawn to its number, or he might draw the $10,000, or $5,000 prizes, for there are 1,960 prizes to be drawn, amounting to $112 400. ; Tickets only cost $2 each. At a meeting of the newly elected Board of Directors of the Wilmington Library Association, held on last Sat; urday afternoon.
