BORDEN T7ALEIGH GOLDGOOfZO DURHAM - r ANNOTATIONS TO REVBAL OF 1905. Oct. market was very day's session and after making new low records for the season had a sharp rally ;n the late trading. The close was firm, net unchanged to 12 points lower. Sales were estimated at 400, 000 bales. The opening was barely steady at a net advance 9 to 16 points on cover ing and- in sympathy -with the higher Liverpool, cables which were probably influenced by the better tone of the London stock market. Reports of further difficulties in trust and bank ing circles here and in New England, and- private wires from the South pre dicting a stampede among holders in the we&tern belt soon weakened the local market, and during the middle session prices showed a net loss of 19 to 22 points on active months under liquidation and bear pressure. Jan uary sold at 10.03 or 264 points below the high level of last September. Not withstanding the further failures re ported among financial institutions, general sentiment ' seemed a little more cheerful during the afternoon, and in the late trading prices rallied sharply on rumors of reduced crop estimates, Liverpool buying and cov ering of shorts. Last prices were 15 to 18 points up from the lowest on active months. Southern spot markets were officially reported 1-16 to 1-4 cents lower. The census report issued at the opening was about as expected. Receipts at the ports today 49,911 bales, against 39,79 8 last week, and 62.824 last year. For the week 325,- 000 bales, against 271,510 last week and 465, 878. last year. Today's re ceipts at Houston 4,010 bales, against 13,463 last year. New York, Oct. 23 Spot closed steady. New York, Oct. . 25. The Ktoek market reflected an early curb to the exhuberance of cheer which mark ed the Hevulsion late yesterday from the depths of despair into which it was slipping. After the check had been applied conditions settled down into a dull waiting attitude with a late upward spurt. Activity was on a small scale. Prices generally were pnetty well sustained but 'weak ppots con stantly developed which showed the feverish condition of the market and the occasional necessity of additional liquidation. The considerable numbers of addi tions to banking and trust company institutions which closed their door, most of them to check runs, had lit tle effect on tho market eentiment. The belief that the situation was clear ing In the financial center here in Vjw Tork was ; the paramount In fluence on sentiment. The dwindling of the run on the trust company of rtiucni.fi Biitvi iu coioniai Branch was acepted as the subsidence of the greatest danger. Prom the strictly stock market view, when funds ap peared in the loan crowd late in the day, supplied by bankers pool to the extent of $15,000,000. and was loaned on call at the stock exchange it meant that the stock market's needs were : supplied until Monday. Prices rose rapidly In Ihe latter part of this day and closed strong at the best prices. There was present the hope that by Monday next, when the loans must be renewed, the situation will taa so far cleared up that the money stringency will be sensibly relaxed and saner conditons established. uonas were weak.
