It was held yesterday and largely attended. It was held nea. the place where an' attempt was made to assault a young lady on tha previous day, which was thwarted by the timely approach of a white man and several colored men! The attempted crime was uppermost in the minds of those at the picnic. During the ! day speeches were made fcy'Prof ;N;T. Roberta. Prof." T.F. Williams. Prof. J a Morgan. Rev. W. M. Graves and CoL James H. Young, all leaders of their race, who deplored the crime and denounced ' the crimi nal. The following resolutions were unanimously adopted: We, the people of Oberlln. assent bled at our: annual picnic, wish to ex press our condemnation of the atro cious crime attempted to be committed on a young white girl In the woods near ' Oberlln on yesterday morning; , and we wish to assure the. public that we will do everything in our power to assist the authorities In bringing the guilty party to justice. , r . ROADS OUT TOOK AN APPEAL. Edwards' Bond Fixed at $200 Sev eral Minor-CancM Tried One Drunk, One Aault Liquor Cane Post- poiicd. The case against II. T. Edwards, charged with running a blind tiger. was yesterday disposed of by Justice Stronacb. The case was tried on June G and Judgment reserved, pending an investigation of the law relative to certain points. It was brought out In the trial that Edwards had govern ment license, and the possession of such license Is prima facie evidence that the possessor is selling, or In tends to sell liquor or other Intoxi cants. The court adjudged Edwards guilty and he was sentenced yesterday by Justice ' Stronach to serve twelve months on the county roads. Through his attorney. Mr. J. N. Holding, the defendant jgave notice of appeal and the bond waa fixed at $200. Charlies Dixon, white, was charged with keeping a vicious dog, but as the evidence fas not strong enough ' to convict, he was diamlssed. Allen Foster, a colored lad of six teen summers, was charged with as saulting a little negro . with a knife. The defendant waa adjudged guilty and fined ,15 and coats, which he was unable to pay, and will be sent to the roads. . He has already served two terms, the present one making his third. ! . 4 v ; .. Dan Lucas, the half-witted negro boy, arrested by the police Wednes day . afternoon haa been cleared . by Miss Curtice, who after a close scrutiny of Jeffreys In the county Jail, where he waa placed in line wiui nve other negroes, went before Police Jus tice Stronach and stated that It waa certainly Jeffreys, the negro in. Jail, who was her assailant and not Dan Lucas, held by the police.
