Tlie citizens of Arheille did all
within their power to promote tlu
eomfurt anil .leasure of the members

the proverbial hospitality of moun
taineers. On Wednesday niyht. at
the eomiuodious ch.ij-t 1 of the Ash
ville Feinale College, a public rcci p
tion was yiven the association by the
citizens, when eloipient and appro
priate addresses were delivered, at
the conclusion of which a sumptuous
banquet was enjoyed in the I.llyedill
iii room of the college. The next
night a f;raiid dress ball was given at
the opera house, while the lovers of
the tcrpsichorean art sported themsel
ves. This was to many the most en
joyable occasion of the week, and even
some of our more venerable bn thren
participated with ;:11 the zest of thci;
younger days.
The town of Ashei!le is said to lie
.the best iidvi rlised place in the 1'i.i
toil States, but a visit to it w ill con
vince any one that "tin' half ha'.h not
been told." In the past ten years its
population has doubled numbering
now about three thousand which
will no doubt be again doubled du
ring the next decade. The air is so
