Jackson has gone a a delegate to the Woman's Missionary Society, which meets during the session of the conference. Cowry FinjncI'.s In another col limn we publish the Ucpoi t of our county tinauee couiiiiittee, which will bo read with much interest by every tax-payer in thai ham. It u ill he wen that our county is considerably in debt, being over one year behind, that is, if all the la'.es levied for lh4 were now collected they woind not quit pay the county's present in debtedness, ami lenve nothing for the support of the comity during the next year. In .his we do nut in clude the bond issued for bui.ding the court-house, and fir which a special lax is levied. N 'W (he ques tion aiisea, how is the county l' catch upT In our opinion the best way is to obtain authority from the LcgU latuao to bond the floaiing d'hl ; that is, to issue bonds h: uriug li or M per cent, interest and ayab.e in 1(1, 1ft or lit) years, and with ihe sale of these bonds to pay every out standing order. By doing this the credit of the county will not milf r, aud the debt will lie paid oil' wilhoiii the tax-payers being scarcely con Kcioiia of it. If this is not done, ol eoma other arrangement made, we fear that our county wid soon suffer from an impaired ciedit. A Mkan Man. The following letter from a citizen of this county was copied by the Raleigh News and Ob server from the New York Times : "Mlkrv Oaks, Chatham Co., X. C, Nov. 5, 188.. To the Editor of the j Times : Sir : Tho result of the elec- ; tiou is such that I will, if it is in my 1 1Hwer, emigrate to a Northern State. . do not wish to live longer in a solid South, though I was borne here in i thia State, but I lack the money to' remove myself aud family from this ; land of Sodom aud (iomorrah. What j ahallldo? I believe there are plenty j in tha North who would aid me, but i I know them not." j We do not know, or care to kuow, ' the author of the above letter. We only regret that our county should j ever have been disgraced by such an j individual having been "borne here", ami we doubt not that his neighbors will be ho glad to get lid of him that ' they will give him money enough to remove him "from this laud of Sodom and Gomorrah". But we hardly be- j lieve that he has any desire or inten tion ot removing : he is evidently "on tbe make" and thought that his letter would so excite the sympathy of some old women at the North that they would send him a few dollars fen live on this winter, as no doubt he ia too lazy to work for a living.
