The chairman of every piecinct
board of registrars in Chatham
was a Fusionist, and the law pivi'

other registrars, to conduct the
registration as effectually as if all
were present. Of course this
amounted practically to there be

And by-the-way we would re

which cannot be said of all their

Yes, it is well enough to remind

held in the court loom for a long
time.
After the caucus adjourned the
convention held its open session,
withJ. L Spence as chairman,
nml Frank Paldwiu and ire.l.
(Jattis as secretaries. The ne
groes were conspicuous by their
absence, there being' only two
lonesome looking darkeys quietly
seated in the rear. Heretofore at
Populist conventions in Chatham
they were present in large num
bers hiuI were very demonstrative.
And the white Populists them
selves were much less demonstra
tive than usual, and their attend
ance was much smaller than at
any previous convention, being
only eighty by actual count.
Alter the nominations had been
rati tied for senator and represent
atives, a communication was read
bv Secretary Oattis which he said
had been sent by the Itepiiblicaii
county executive committee. This
cniniiiunicatioii proposed a Fusion

further stated that the llepiihli
cnu nominees would be J. A.

L. Wreini for register. Of course
this proposal or request was not
acceded to, for the court-house
l ing had long since determined
that Liliebeliy should be nomi
nated for register. Indeed the
proposal or request Was not even
considered or voted on, but with
out paying any attention to it

The harmony of the convention
was distun ed only once wheuJ.
1-1 lii van charged Lineberrv with
having voted for the notorious
negro politician, Jim Young,
against n white couutymnu for
guano inspector when he was a
member of the Fusion P.mrd of
Agriculture. It. H. Dixon denied
the charge, but, when asked by
Pryan if Liiieb. iry had voted
against Young, said he did not
know!
The communication from the
Pepiiblican committee did not ex

in' could predict who would be the
