Overacre is critically ill with pneumonia. Robt. L. Sutphin, Jr., of Hunting ton. W. Va., is visiting his father. * % Mrs. A. C. Ray is confined to her room with a slight attack of appendi citis. Melvin, wife and four chil dren, who have been laid up with the flu, are able to be out again. Squire D. V. Tally, of Goldston, and Terrill B. Beal, of Bear Creek, Vere visitors in Pittsboro on Monday. John White, who was taken quite sick at his home near Hanks Chapel last Sunday morning, is improving. I j A. Thames, of Washington, D. F arr ell, had the misfortune to get his right arm broken last Sunday, while cranking a Ford car. Mrs. Beulah Selby, of Aurora, and Mrs. D. H. Dixon, of Goldsboro, are visiting their daughter and niece, re spectively, Mrs. J. R. Edwards at Bynum. H. H. Hackney, who has been so rery sick with the flu, is improving -low. Three of his children have also been sick with the same disease, but all are better. Hackney Postoffice no longer ex-* sts. The Department has discontin ued the office and the patrons of the office are now served by star route from Bynum. Dr. W. B. Chapin, who has been confined to his room with sickness, has so far improved that he is back on his job again, alleviating other people’s troubles. T. A. Clark, a former Chathamite, who left this county 20 years ago and moved to Durham to live, died in a hospital there last Tuesday from Brights Disease. Mrs. John Allen Thames ,of Wash -1 ngton. D. C., and Miss' Irene “Sut phin, of Oteen, are at the bedside of their father, Robt. L. Mrs. Linder before marriage was Miss Myrtle Poe, daughter Os Mr .and Mrs. C. C. Poe, who are now grandparents, young as they are. Elsewhere in this paper will be found ar ad”e tisement from R. E. Wilson at Aberdeen, he says that after his sub scription run out to the Record last year he decided he could do without it, but he finds that he misses it so much that he sends along another check for $1.50 for another year. The ladies will give a box party at Mt .Pleasant school house next Saturday evening, Feb. 3rd, contmenc ing at 7:30 o’clock. Ladies invited to come and bring boxes. Everybody welcome. The proceeds of the party will go to the benefit of the parson age. . . Mrs. J. C. Harmon and family have asked us to express theiia» appre ciation to the people of Chatham county who have been so unusually kind to them during the sickness of mother and father. New Hill, Rt. 2, Jan. 29.—This t hearts of Mr. and Mrs. Jim ivntcheil , were made sad Monday night, Janu ary 22, when the deatn angel enter ed their oid home and claimed their oldest daughter, Sadie Mitchell, who * was auout ten years of age. 5 Sadie had been sick most of her ’ short stay on earth, having spent sev eral weeks in a hospital in Durham. ’ Her disease was pronounced incuraoie and she was brought home and grad [ uaily grew worse until death relieved . her suffering . . bne was laid to rest in New Elam cemetery January 23. Funeral ser [ vices were conducted by Mr. T. F.
