Greensboro.—The fifth annual meet ing of the Southern Textile Workers association will be' held at the Nprth Carolina College for Women here on June 6,7, and 8. Rockingham.—A negro man, Ola, Covington, living one mile south of Rockingham, committed suicide this week by pulling the trigger of a shot gun with his toe. , Fayetteville.—Fire of origin not yet determined practically gutted the building of the Clarendon laundry and threatened one of the city’s principal business, blocks. Sanford.—The funeral services of Joseph M. Thomas, 61, who was kill ed by a falling tree near Cheraw, S. C., were conducted at Shallow Well Christian church, near Jonesboro. Winston-Salem. —The Baptist State hospital has been formally opened and hundreds visited the institution and admired the splendid structure and equipment. # Washington. The production of North Carolina pine in April amount ed to 52,500,000 as compared with 62,- 460,000 in March and 54,139,000 for the correponding month of last year. W. C. Riddick has resigned as pre sident of State College at Raleigh and E. C. Brooks, from the department of education has been tendered the posi tion made vacant by Riddick’s resig nation. Fayetteville.—After an actual fly ing time of 25 and 1-2 hours, Lieut. E. P. Gaines and Staff Sergeant A. J. Beaufort. —Carteret , county’s Irish potato crop will begin to move to the northern markets this week and next week shipments will be heavy. ’Hie crop this year will not be more than half what it usually is. Statesville. —Boise Connor, negro, who was found guilty of second de gree murder in connection with the death of Deputy Sheriff Llyod Cloan inger in August, 1919, was sentenced by Judge B. F. Long to the State pris on for a term of 25 years. Monroe.—Vance Wentz, 23 years old, was shot and killed Friday night about 9:30 o’clock by his sister, Mrs. Clara Belle Kluttz, aged 18.
