Johnson and Children, of Greensboro, spent the past week with relatives ond friends in Ramseur. Mr. and Mrs. Charley Gilliland of Greensboro, but formerly of this place, spent several days here this week. W. C. York and son Clyde, of San ford, were visitors here Wednesday. Miss Lucile Townsend, of Ellerbe, spent the past week With friends in Ramseur. Mrs. F. A. Chappell and son, of Washington, D. C., are visiting Mrs. j Chappell’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. 1 M. Whitehead. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Cox and Mrs. • John Cox visited friends at Wendell last week. Miss Broadwell returned 1 with them and is their guest. * Born to Mr. and Mrs. W. Ed Poe, the past week, a daughter. Memorial services were held in the Methodist church Friday in honor of Pres. Harding. Addresses were made by Rev. S. L. Morgan, Prof. T. E. Storey and Miss Meriel Graves. FAST, RECKLESS DRIVING. Bennett Local News and Timely Ob servations of The Writer. Bennett, Aug. 13.—Quite a good many attended the begining of the re- , vival services at Fall Creek Sunday i and as usual, there was a large con gregation present. Rev. Colin Strickland of Greens boro is aiding the pastor in this meet ing. The meeting begins at the Christian church in Bennett next Sunday. Rev. Brendol of Coleridge Will aid Rev. Mr. Underwood in the services. The closing of the cotton mills in Greensboro for ten days has given op portunity to many Chatham folks to visit relatives in this section. Mr. Fred Bray and wife, of Greens-! boro, visited his parents and relatives last week. j Mr. J. A. Purvis and family made a visit to Greensboro Saturday, return-; ing Sunday. Mr. Vote Kidd and family, of High Point, were visitors at High Falls 1 Sunday. They lived for a long while in this section before moving to High Point many years ago. ! Many people observe the railroad law here. In fact, most of our people stop at railroad crossings. It is a new law that should have been observed by everyone without an act of the leg islature. It is dangerous to cross a railroad track unless you know that there are no lose cars or engine ap proaching. While it may look foolish to some for a person to stop his car on a little railroad like the B. & W., 1 when they have reason to believe no train is about, it’s a law and a good one at that. j Officers of Bennett had two parties j up last week for speeding through the tdwn. The drivers admitted they were driving too fast—very reckless, in fact. Most every driver speeds too fast at times, and we should all slow up at dangerous places and when we are ! passing people or conveyances on the road. | We observe that the half mile of road that leads into Fall Creek has not been worked, as yet, and we must say that this is the worst piece of; road that leads to a church that we | know. We learned yesterday that the owners of the land has offered to | give more land on the side of this bad road. We cannot understand why the folks in that section don’t take the matter up and work it. BEN-NET. HUNNICUTT-KNIGHT. Raleigh Times. A romance which had its inception in the office of United States Marshal Ward was happily culminated Thurs day afternoon when Miss Lucile Knight, stenographer in the office, be came the bride of Deputy Marshal C. H. Hunicutt. Friday they were in Ral eigh on their way to Norfolk, Wash ington and Baltimore on the wedding trip. The marriage took place at 4 o’- clock Thursday afternoon, August 9, at the home of the bride, near San ford, in Chatham county. Rev. J. T. Stanfield performed the ceremony, with a large crowd of relatives and friends in attendance. The bride came to Raleigh from Chatham and began her duties as clerk in the Marshal’s office at the same time that Deputy Hunnicutt be gan his work. Miss Knight is well known in Pitts boro and Chatham county, and has innumerable friends. She is particu larly attractive, and is an accomplish ed young lady. LOCAL ITEMS OF INTEREST.
