NEWS FROM SILER CITY. Local and Personal Items of General Interest to Record Readers. Siler City, Aug. 24.—Last Thursday afternoon the Methodist Sunday school numbering more than 200, eujoyed a picnic and supper in the city parK. T. F. Overman, W. J. Richardson, Alex Kichamson and Henry Richard son, have returned from a motor trip o various places of interest in wes« Uern Noith Carolina. They report crops everywhere looking well and roads of the right kind to make travel a pleasure. Rev. F. R. Paschal has returned from Ogden \vhej£ he was called on account of the d6ath of his grand lather, J. R. Paschal, a prominent cit izen ox Vance county. Mr. and Mrs. Junius Wren were in High Point Tuesday. They were ac tomoanied by their little daughter, June Parke, to join her aunt, Mrs .. ... i :i.-. c,oiiins, with whom she will go to Rayford, W. Va., to spend the winter. Work is progressing on the well being drilled at the new school build ing, as is also the placing of furniture and fixtures in the various rooms. The date for the opening of the schoool has not been definitely fixed, however it will be about the middle of September. I. C. Blair and daughter, Miss Eu nice Blair, of Raleigh, Mr. and Mrs. George Martin and daughter, Miss Katherine, of Columbia, S. C., and Mr. and Mrs. George Martin, Jr., and lit tle son, of Aberdeen were recent vis itors in the homes of M. M. Fox and J. B. Marley. Sam Nelson, Misses Matilda and Bettie Nelson, of Mebane, are visiting in the homes of J. A Cooper and W. B. Cooper this week. >C. C. Cheek and R. R. Cheek left Tuesday for their home at Kline, S. CL, after a visit of several days to their uncle W. N. C. White, on Siler City route 3 and other relatives in this section. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Green, of Okla homa, are guests this week of his brother, R. (Too late for our last issue.) Moncure, Rt. 2, Aug. 20. —Mrs. Maggie Bndgers, of Saniord, is visit ing relatives in this community. Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Bridgers and family, of Greensboro, are spending several days with Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Thomas. Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Riddle, of Vi dalia, Ga., Mrs. Robert Farrell and son, of Aberdeen and Mrs. L. G. Bui- Hard, of Raleigh, spent last Wednes day {with Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Har ward. Mrs. L. N. Cook and daughter, of Red Springs, spent several days lasi week in the home of Mr. H. R. Har ward. Miss Mary Bridgers, of Sanford, is visiting her cousin, Miss Lucile Thomas. Mr. and Mrs. Latt Poe and little daughter, Fleta, spent Saturday night in Durham in the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. McDaniel. Mrs. Vann Poe and family of San ford, spent several days last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Poe. HOW TO MAKE GRAPE JELLY. Raleigh, August 27. —A recipe in demand now is one for making grape jelly. Mrs. Cornelia C. Morris gives the following recipe which she has found to be very good in her work with the Agricultural Extension Ser vice: 8 pounds grapes, (one-half under ripe. ) 2 pounds water (one quart.) Crush grapes and boil with the wat er 20 minutes. Strain through cheese cloth and pour juice through a flannel jelly bag. Measure and add form one half to three-fourths as much as juice. Cook to 224 degrees F. Grapes require less sugar than apples ,as they contain less pectin which is the jelly making substance. Over-cooking and the use of too much sugar cause many failures in jelly-making. BEAR CREEK LOCALS. (Too late for our last issue.) Bear Creek, Rt. 2. Aug. 20. —Mes- * srs F. C. Wish every body could have been there and heard that singing. 1 Mrs. J. C. Gunter informs your cor respondent that she had a chicken hatched out in February and in June it began to lay. Now she has a fam ily of her own, eleven little chicks. The children of Mr. I. P. Coggins held a family reunion at his home on Thursday, August 16th. All the chil dren were present. They had a most pleasant time. His children are P. H. Coggins, of Nashville, Tennessee; Rev L. P. Coggins, of Semora, N. C.; I. C. Coggins, of Bear Creek; J. T. Cog gins, of Greensboro; Mesdames C. R. Elkins, of Siler City; Mrs. W. R. Highfill, of Guilford College and Miss Berta Coggins, of Maxton. Mrs. T. B. Beal is visiting her brother, A. P. Holt, of Salisbury- Mr. Beal accompanied her as far as Greensboro. He is attending the State meeting of the Jr. Order at Durham this week. PHIL. LOCALS FROM CAPE FEAR. (Too late for our last issue.) New Hill Rt. 2, Aug. 20.*—Mrs. Em ma Godwin and Miss Ethel Godwin, of Durham, are the guests of Mr. J. L. Goodwin. A fine young mule belonging to Mr. A. S. Lassiter died Sunday night. Mrs. Luther Boone and children, of Rockingham, were recent guests of her sister, Mrs. Ernie Holt. Mrs. Julianne Farrell, of Fayette ville, spent Sunday with Mrs. Mar garet Thomas. Mrs. Notie Sauls continues very sick. We wish for her a speedy re covery. Mrs. Ed. Woody and children, of Durham, are guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Lasater. A most charming affair Monday evening was a party given by. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Holt. Interesting games were enjoyed, after which the many guests were served refreshing ice cream by the hostess.
