Mr. Rat Lanius lost a valuable
young mule by death last week. He
was recently offered a good price for
the animal but refused to sell him.
Salisbury street from the depot to
the western extremity is being scrap
ed and treated to top soil, much to the
satisfaction of the residents thereon.

The department of Commerce an- j
nounces that there were ginned in
North Carolina, prior to November 14,
this year, 833,925 bales of cotton as;
against 692,187 for the same date last
year.
Mr. S. Berman announces in this
paper that he will give a Ford car
away and he also tells of many bar
gains that he is giving in his store.

Mrs. Moore, Miss Maude Moore,
Mrs. Wm. Little Steele and Miss
Maude Moore Steele, of Rockingham,
spent their Thanksgiving at the sum
mer home near Pittsboro. They re
turned home Sunday.
Mrs. M. M. .Guinn, who has been
living in Lamar, S. C., for some time
has moved to Durham where she will
make her home. Mrs. Guinn has many
friends in Pittsboro who will be glad
to know that she has come nearer
home.
The Siler City school suspended
from Wednesday until Monday for
the holidays. Pittsboro school begun
the session behind *time and gave on
ly one day. The time lost at the be
erirming will be made up during the
holidays, during the session.
R. L. Baine, a stocking salesman,
whose home is in Sanford, was arrest
ed in Raleigh last week charged with
entering a private home and taking
personal articles from a Mr. Key. Mr.
Baine has frequently been in 'Pitts
boro taking orders for hosiery for a
northern concern.
Master Fletcher Tudor had a narrow
escape from serious injury Monday
night, when he ran out from behind a
car near T. M. Bland & Company’s
store in east Pittsboro, and came in
intact an automobile driven by
Mr. Atlas Farrell. He received minor
bruises, but it was a narrow escape.

The old town is taking on the ap
pearance of Christmas. All the mer
chants have had a visit from Santa
Claus and their stores show it. Siler
City merchants have made an excep
tional effort in this particular and
one can buy just about whnt thev
want for the holidays at home. For

Mr. Ben Williams and Miss Annie
Snipes were married last Wednesday,
November 28th, happily culminating
a romance of four-years duration and
proving that unwavering persistence
can accomplish much. Never was a
circuit rider more prompt to meet his ;
appointments than Mr. Williams to
fill his Sunday afternoon engagements.
He had become such a permanent fix- ;
ture that the whole community grew
anxious about him if he failed to be
in his accustomed place. j
