The - damage done througout the county will run into many thousands of dollars owing to the estimated rainfall of 21 inches during the month of September. A metalic casket near Wilson was washed from its place in a vault in a cemetery by the rain and subsequent flood conditions and washed to a near by road, When found by residents it was standing on end by the side of the road. The body was that of a man who died four weeks ago. It was rein— terred. Fritz Deitrick and James Wacaster dropped 225 feet to death Thursday when the superstructure over the; smokestack at the central heating plant at the North Carolina College at Greensboro gave way and toppled over the side of the stack, carrying the men with it. Both were killed al most instantly. Com, thousands of acres of it were on the rich bottoms of the Dan river which greeted dawn Tuesday with gentle rustling blades and plump heavy-banging ears, a delight to hearts of the planters, and a pleasure provoking sight for passersby, soon lay smothered in the muddy, silt-filled waters of a river gone wild and worth less. With a erash that could be heard above the roaring torrent which surg ed about it, the Southern railway steel and concrete bridge across Little river, one mole east of Goldsboro, collapsed early Thursday night carrying with it three cars of coal and a car of stone. The four carloads had been placed on the structure to weight it down.
