Y The beautiful and attractive home Os Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Horton was aglow with festal lights and flowers Monday evening when a reception was tendered the teachers of the Pitts boro school undo* the auspices of the Pittsboro Woman’s Club. The spacious living room and re cption hall were thrown together and decorated with pot plants and early fall flowers. ,In the receiving line were Mes dames Hayes, Brooks, Hatch, Chapin, Dunlap, Skinner, Edwards, Lodge, Nance, Berry, and Messrs. Nolan, Wa ters, Chapin, London, Brooks, and Hatch, mostly teachers and school officials. The guests weregraciously received by Mrs. Horton and assistants while delicious punch was served by Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Dorsett, keepers of the bowL ~ ' * It was a pleasant evening and many ' of the Pittsboro folk took advantage of the occasion to meet the ladies and gentlemen of’the school' faculty r DEMORATIC SPEAKING. A. Mann seen at Moncure Saturday was rather surprised and gratified at the payment of two dol lars by Robert Street, colored, who had been in Danville Va., for the past 4 years. The Sandy Creek Baptist Associa tion which embraces a large number of the Chatham churches, met at Ab- I erdeen away down in Moore county, I last Thursday. Mr. Victor R. John ! son, who succeeded his father, the late revered Prof. R. P. Johnson to the responsible position, and serv ed with dignity and dispatch. Another Chatham man, Mr. Teague of Siler City was clerk. Those who at one time or another attended from Pittsboro were: Pas tor Gordon, Moderator Johnson, Messrs. Altan Riddle, P. T. Farrell, O. J. Peterson, and possibly others. It was the first time the writer had ever attended a session of this historic body. He was entertained de lightfully in the home of Mr. Yates, a Wake county man by birth but born of Chatham parents, his mother being a Council.
