Thursday, February 28, 1929. BELIEVED LOCAL DEMOCRATS WILL SUPPORT BAILEY Will Kannapolis Democracy Line Up to a Man for Bailey In Contes/: With Simmons? 'From The Towel City News , \ Belief is freely expressed there that eighty per cent of Democracy’s two thousand vot *ers in No. 4 Township will be "found lined in a solid phalanx Itfor Josiah William Bailey in L 930, if he, as is intimated in dispatch, should con gest the right with Senator F. M. Simmons to go on the Dem ♦ocratic ticket for United Stat ues Senator next year. The Raleigh lawyer, one of the foremost Smith leaders 'in North Carolina before and after the Hous ton convention, did not, it is true, «cut much of a figure here in 1924 when he ran against Angus Wilton for Governor, but that day, Jhe local Democratic leaders aver, is past, and much water has ran un der the bridge since that palmy day. -Josiah, then mighty unpopular, was Imiting his head against the irre sistible “Simmons Machine,” then "in the heyday of its career. But the order changeth. There are now Ifew state leaders who rival Mr. Bailey in local popularity. John 'Christopher Blucher Eringhause, in whose behalf the local machine has lined up for Governor, of course, is by far the local favorite. 34r. Eringhause, however, is not a candidate for Senator, and will not come up for consideration until 1932, with Frank Page, Dennis Brummitt, FJd Flamnagan and General Albert Cox. This leaves the senatorial field to the mighty Josiah William. Senator Simmons has indicated his purpose to run again in 1932, and Mr. Bailey is the only opponent whose name has been seriously men tioned. Kannapolis has it in for Sim jmons and nothing would please the Tpeople here more than for the sen ior Sen-tor to run again, for they want a chance to vite “agin him.” With Bailey in the race, local folk whom they consider, now, as nothing xnore than a plain Republican. Josiah wasn’t very popular here an 1924, but he is sure to corral the 3.631 voters who supported Govern or Smith for the presidency. The three-hundred odd Democrats who swallowed Mr. Hoover, are expected Jo support the Senator, together with a handful of Republicans who will, doubtless, enter the Democrat ic primary in order to vote for him. -NOTICE OF SALE OF REAL ESTATE UNDER and by virtue of authori ty conferred in that certain mort gage deed executed by Leon T.
