New Treatment for Chicken Pox I —® ( Chicken pox, or sorehead, often ■ causes a large loss among chickens. \ According to Dr. B. F. Kaupp, in an . article in the October 15 issue of : The Southern Planter, the disease \ usually attacks the birds under one < year of age. Older ones are usually ; immune. • When the disease occurs on the \ comb, face, and wattles, it is called, ( chicken pox; and when it occurs in the mouth, it is known as canker, \ according to Dr. Kaupp. - Recently, a new treatment has • been discovered for the control of 3 this disease. It has been found to be i very satisfactory. It should be used , in place of the old treatment. In \ reference to the treatment, The j Southern Planter article states: , “The former method of vaccina- i tion by making an injection under j the skin with a hypodermic syringe i did not give satisfactory results. ’ Now vaccination is done on the skin \ much as human beings are vacci- i nated against smallpox. “The most ideal time to vaccinate j against pox and canker is when the j pullets and cockerels needed for , another year’s breeding are on \ range. Birds may be vaccinated at j six weeks of age, but from 12 to * 15 weeks of age is more advisable. * The hens may be vaccinated later, \ if pox appears. When the pullets j are taken from the range house to ] the laying house they may be treated j for worms and vaccinated at the ! same time. Vaccination may throw * laying birds slightly out of lay but | they will soon recover. For this rea- » son, they should be vaccinated in the * summer time.” — | \ WHY, CHARLES, YOU SAIP YQUD i b take patri&a aud mb I TO F^ EEPCfZT AFTERIJOQU j | Bnte FOR SALE at AUCTION HOUSE AND LOT On December 27, at 10 o’clock, I j will sell to the highest bidder for; cash the house and one-acre lot ] formerly the residence of Mrs. L.
