BLAIR, Sheriff of Chatham County. ~~ SHAW-RIDDLE. i (Contributed) In a quiet ceremony marked by beauty and charm and witnessed by only relatives and a few close close friends, Miss Louise Ann Rid dle became the bride of Curtis Gil bert Shaw on Monday evening, June 9, at the First Baptist Church in Chapel Hill, with Rev. Eugene Olive as the officiating minister. Prior to the ceremony Mrs. Henry A. Bynum sang “The Sweetest Story Ever Told’’ and “I Love You Truly”. She was accompanied at the piano, by Mrs. Wm. F. Bland. The bride and groom entered to the strains of the bridal chorus from Lohengrin; while “To a Wild Rose” was softly rendered during the j ceremony. The bride who is of attractive blond type, was smartly gowned in a dark-blue chiffon ensemble, with harmonizing accessories, and | wore a corsage of sweetheart roses and lillies of the valley. Mrs. Shaw is the attractive daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Altoft M. Riddle, i recently of Pittsboro but now re * sidents of Long Island, N. Y. She has a host- of friends throughout j the state. 1 Mr. Shaw is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Colon G. Shaw, of Raleigh. For several years he has held a responsible position with the Dur ! ham Herald. After a short wedding trip to the ! western part of the state, Mr. and Mrs. Shaw will be at home in Dur ham. C. ft**************, ; * * * , Asbury News * The Children’s Day and Home Coming will not be at Asbury Sun day June 14, but will be later. • A terrible tragedy occured Sat urday Evening between 6 and 7 o’clock when Mr. Johnnie Stedman’s truck turned over and caught Mr. Lewis Gunter under it, instantly Idling him. Lewis, was 22 years old and was much loved by all i wno knew him. He was buried at Asbury Meth odist Church Sunday P. M. at 4:00 o’clock. He had been a member of Asbury Chruch for a number of years. He leaves his father and mother Mr. and Mrs. O. G. Gunter and the ‘following sisters- and brothers: Jereldine, Betsy, Mrs. Worth Rosser Olin, Lee and a half brother Dormie Williams. The large crowd proved that he was thought well of. Jt was the largest crowd that has ever been to a funeral at Asbury. May God’s , Blessings rest with the bereaved family. k Mrs. W. C. Gunter and Mrs. F. Wood are visiting Mrs. J. W. John son and friends in this Communtiy this week. , • Mr. and Mrs. Bent Reberson and Roy Rhodes of Pittsboro attended the funeral of Mr. Gunter Sunday P. M. , Several from Esbury attended the Quaterly Meeting at Jones Chapel M. E. Church Saturday. - , Mr. C. F. McCormick happened to bad luck last week, when he got one foot' mashed up while working at Mill. Miss Margaret Johnson, our Epworth League president, who has been in school at East Carolina Teachers College, came home last Friday. Miss Estelle Johnson is home from Cullowee Colloge, and Mr. - Lestor Johnson from Dayton School.
