Miss Minnie Carlton and Miss Nell Rose Perkins returned Sat urday to their home at William son, W. Va., after spending sev eral days here with relatives of Miss Carlton. They were accom panied home by Miss Lula Jen nings. of this city, who will spend a week at Williamson. Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Dunnagan and children, of Winston-Salem, spent Sunday with 'Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Eller, of Millers Creek. Mr. [Dunnagan is district manager of the Imperial Life Insurance com pany, of which Mr. Eller is the local representative. Mrs. C. W. Mr. Burley Gilley, of Lansing, Ashe county, was brought to the Wilkes Hospital Sunday evening with a badly mangled arm as the result of a head-on automobile collision which took place near Warrensville earlier in the day. His arm is responding to treat ment nicely and amputation will not be necessary unless compli cations develop. Mrs. Dudley S. Hill and chil dren, Betty and Sloan, returned Friday from Baltimore, Md.. where she visited her sister. Mrs. Chas. E. Wilson for several days. They also attended the wedding of Mrs. Hill’s nephew, Mr. Gor don E. Wilson. Little Miss Betty was a fij? wer girl, while Master Sloan Whs the ringbearer at the wedding. Mr. Hill went there to accompany them home. Boy Is Arrested On Larceny Count Royal AloCarler Caught Stealing At Goodwill Store Here Saturday Royal McCarter, of North Wil kesboro. Route 2, was arrested here Saturday when he was caught in the act of stealing .sliirt.s and hose from the Good will Department Store. When the hoy saw he had been noticed, he started to run, but was caught and detained until the police arrived. He was placed in the city jail pending trial on the larceny charge. Primary Children Enjoy An Outing Around twenty children of the Primary and Junior department of the Wilkesboro Methodist Sun day school enjoyed a delightful outing yesterday afternoon. The children met at the home of Mrs. N. O. Smoak and hiked out to Gail’s spring. Various amuse ments filled the afternoon until time for the picnic supper. Those In charge of the children were Mrs. Smoak, Mrs. Warner Miller and Miss Willie Guthrie. I The North Wilkesboro team was a specially selected team, this not being a league game. Ross-St.CIaIr Last Wednesday night at the Methodist church in North Wil- ktahoro a service in honor of col lege students was held. Out of the one hundred and one persons present forty-three were col lege graduates or are under classmen. These people stood and told the name of their college. Among the numbers on the program were the opening pray- e-r by Mr. J. A. Gabriel, of Lin- colnton. A splendid talk by Mar jorie Faw on, “My College.” Dr. Fred Hubbard spoke on, “My Professional College,” stating that his grandfather graduated from the medical college of the University of Pennsylvania one hundred years ago this year; and that an uncle graduated from Jefferson College In 1888. Mr. E. L. Blackman, Jr., spoke on, “Four Years Out Of College,” telling of the after benefits of a college education. The pastor talked on “Why Go To. College? Among the reasons he named in creased earning capacity, friend ships, refinement, and opportun ities for service. Prof. Ylalfacre made another of his uplifting talks Sunday morning at the Sunday school hour. He said that the church is the salvation of the world and urged the men to be loyal to that Institution. Dr. Sam Cassel head ed the school in the absence of Mr. Hlx, the superintendent, who is in Chicago. Over two hundred people were present. At the morning service Sunday Mr. John Kermit Blackburn was the offertory soloist. He used as a motif, “Close to Thee.” The pastor spoke on, “Being Sensi tive Toward God.” Several visi tors were present—glad to have you. The Mt. Airy District Confer ence convened at Jefferson on Monday afternoon. Dr. W. E. Poovey will preside. Bishop E. D. Mouzon Is expected to he present and speak. It is expected that a member of the local church will be elected a delegate to the An- ifual Conference. The Woman’s Wesley Bible Class will meet with Mrs. R. J. Hinshaw on Tuesday, 3:30 p. m. The lad-ies of the church are asked to save Octagon Soap pro ducts wrappers for our Children's Home. Mrs. Armbrust will re ceive them and send them to the home. Our Children’s Home is caring for over 400 children and needs every bit of help possible. Both Fellowship hours were held Sunday evening. Miss Ade line Jones led the Senior Young People’s service. Next Saturday morning our Boy Scouts start for Lake Taho- ma for the annual camping trip. This work is being planned by the Scoutmasters and Troop committee. The boys 'will live in tents. All young people who are plan ning to go to Chimney Rock on the camping trip for young peo ple on July 14 please see Mrs. Armbrust at once. We must know how many are going in order to lay our plans. A Junior Department for Fel lowship Hours has been organiz ed. Mrs. Murphy Hunt and Mrs. Ira Payne are leaders. Mrs. Bret Lomax, Mrs. Sam Cassel and Mrs. I. E. Pearson will have charge of the Intermediates. They meet every Sunday. 7:15 p. m. Mr. Robert Gant was received into church membership Sunday evening. We most heartilly wel come him. At that service the pastor outlined the county-wide program tor Law now on foot. Two special prayers were fered Sunday evening. Both quests were by letter.
