Lovely Bridge Party
Given On Friday
A lovely bridge party was giv
en by Mrs. M. G. Edwards at her
home in 'Wllkesboro on Friday
evening. The home was beauti
fully decorated with summer
flowers carrying out a color
scheme of yellow and white
which was furthered in the re
freshments. The top score prize
was won by Mrs. William Bar
ber with the consolation award
going to Mrs. Walter Spivey, of
Rich Square. Mrs. Spivey Is
spending sometime In Wilkes
boro with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. P. G. Holman. After a de
lightful period of play the hos
tess with the aid of Mrs. N. O.
Smoak and her mother, Mrs. C.
E. Parller served dainty refresh
ments.
The home of * Claude Petty,
colored, located near Wllkesboro,
was destroyed by fire one day
last week. All the household fur
nishings were 'burned and the
residence and all Its contents
were a complete loss.

Martin HInshaw had told him he
was going to kill him. He said
he shot the boy when HInshaw
reached down as If to get a rock.

quor business for several years,
but denied that he had been a
bootlegger. He said he bad con
fined his activities to the mak
ing of liquor and to selling It
wholesale In large quantities to
retail dealers.
He said he had hid his gun
and some home brew. In some
brush near the spring where
members of the Elkin party at

Defense witnesses corroborat
ed his' statement that the de
ceased and others had Jumped
on Richardson at tbe spring. The
best witness for the defense was
little Henry Holbrook, 16-year-

study was taught by Miss Eliza
beth Finley followed by an in
teresting talk by Mr. Rufus Mor-

prise for Mrs. Hunt was when
Miss Myrtle Hunt came In for
the supper. Miss Hunt had been
in town since Sunday but no one
knew that she was here except
the family of Mr. A. B. John
ston.

At Luncheon Tuesday

hostesses at a delightful lunch

The luncheon was to honor their
two house guests, Mrs. Earl
Carr, of Hickory, and Mrs. Wal
ter Spivey, of Rich Square. Mrs.
Spivey is a daughter of Mrs. Hol
man. A tempting three course
luncheon was served at one
o’clock with covers for sixteen.

A. R. Ogilvie presented the Bible
lesson.
Circle No. 4 met at the home
of Mrs. Gordon Finley with Mrs.
H. B. Smith presiding. Nine
members were present and heard
the Bible lesson given by Mrs.
J. R. Finley. Mrs. C. C. Faw,
president of the Auxiliary met
with the group.
•Circles No. 1 and No. 2 met in
the evenings and the other two
held their sessions In the after
noon. To close each of the meet
ings light refreshments were
served by the different hostesses.
