Hubbard Entertains Club The members of the Wilkes boro Book club and a number of additional friends were delight fully entertained by Mrs. J. C. Hubbard at her home in' Wil- kesboro Friday afternoon. Four tables were placed for bridge in an attractive setting of cut flow ers. The game was enjoyed throughout the afternoon after which the hostess had the aid of her mother, Mrs. J. W. White, In serving a delectable salad course. Mrs. R. O. Rex, of Philadelphia, was an out-of-town guests at tending the club. Mrs. Rex Is here for a visit with her mother, Mrs. F. B. Hendren. Idlewise Club In ! Meeting Thursday The fortnightly meeting of the ! Idlewise club was held on Thurs day evening with Mrs. J. B. Wil liams as hostess. In Splendid Meeting On Tuesday The Inspirational meeting of the Woman’s Missionary Society of the First Baptist church was held on Tuesday afternoon at the Izaak Walton camp ground with around thirty-five members i he- Ing in attendance. The opening pft prayer, was offered by Mrs. R. P. Casey with Mrs. O. B. Jenkins giving a special prayer for the cause of missions and the mis sionaries after which the mem bers joined In singing, "Jesus Calls us Over the Tumult.” The program for the afternoon was given by members of Mrs. D. T. Bfllsh’s circle with Mrs. Eu gene Olive as leader. The topic, "The Word of God In a French Country,” was well presented by the following ladles, Mesdames Eugene Olive, John Rhodes, Tip McNeil, D. T. Belsh, Gilbert Fos ter, A. H. Andrews and W. A. Bullis. An impressive worship period was led by >Mrs. Chal McNeil us ing as her theme t^e, “I Am's.” In the gospels followed by a vocal duet rendered by Mrs. C. S. Sink and Mrs. Tal Barnes, who sang, “O Love that will not let me go.” Other special prayers were led by Mrs. M. L. Gilreath, E. M. Blackburn and Mrs. C. N. Myers. The closing prayer was given by Mrs. J. N. Shockey. The business session was omit ted and at the close of the pro gram the circle leaders and offi cers of the society served a boun teous picnic supper. Mrs. A. T. Lott Is Charming Hostess Three tables of bridge were in play On Wednesday evening when .Mrs. ‘ T. Lott was charming hostess to the members of her bridge club and a trio of visitors, Mrs. W. M. McCulley, of Salis bury, Mrs. Hunter B. Keck, and Miss Lois Scroggs. Refreshments in two courses were served fol- lovir" the game. A series of in ter . j progressions resulted in the top score award going to Mrs. Frank Eller while Mrs. Jule Deans received the second high. Dahlias, roses and other garden flowers made gay decorations for the home. Misses Irvin And Ford Entertain ^ Around twenty-five members I of the younger s:t were delight fully entertained on Prfday eve ning at the home of Miss Mildred Irvin with Miss Ruth Ford as joint hostess. A number of games and contests provided an evening of fun followed by dainty re freshments. Officers Installed At Auxiliary Meeting The installation of officers, a report from the state conventioo at Wilmington, and a full at tendance of members featured the September meeting of the Le gion Auxiliary that was held on Monday evening at the Legion club house. Mrs. W. R. Absher, state department president, offi ciated at the installation service. The same set of officers will head the Wilkes unit again with the exception of Miss Toby Tur ner, who ivas elected as first vice president to succeed Mrs. Absher, who was recently chosen as state department president at the convention in Wilmington. For the business part of the meeting, the president, Mrs. A. W. Horton was in the chair the usual routine of business being transacted, also splendid reports were submitted by the different committees. Mrs. T. A. Finley gave an interesting report of the state convention in Wilmington. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. A. H. Casey, Mrs. R. P- Casey. Mrs. John Hall and Mrs. Jack Quinn, who at the close of the evening served tempting re freshments consisting of a salad course with sandwiches. Sewing Club Meets With Mrs. Carlton The members of the Wednes day Sewing Club were charming ly entertained on Wednesday aft ernoon with Mrs. HIH Carlton as hostess at her home on Sixth street. Needlework and conversa tion filled the late hours of the afternoon and at the close of the sewing period Mrs. Carlton serv ed delicious refreshments. Circle Meetings Held On Tuesday The circles of the North Wil kesboro Methodist church Auxil iary met in their monthly meet ings on Tuesday with much in terest being shown in the work. Circle No. 1 met at the home of Mrs. E. W. TTogden with Mrs. B. F. Estes as associate hostess. Mrs. R. M. Brame was in cnarge of the meeting due to the absence of the chairman, Mrs. J. C. Smoot.
