As consideration of the Inter ior Department appropriation bill, which carries the parkway item, was launched In the House Tues day, Representative Zebulon Wea ver and other imembers of the cIe!e;:ation expressed relief that the appropriations committee had not cut the fund below the bud get estimates. Pointing out that many items had been cut substantially under the budget recommendations by the committee, Weaver said that after conference with Representa- ' (Ives Doughton and Bulwinkle, it ■ had been decided not to intro duce an amendment for addition al money. They felt, he said, that in view of the current economy drive, such a move would be fruitless. The bill proposes that $2,000,- 000 le appropriated for expendi ture on the Blue Ridge and Natchez Trace parkways during the fiscal year ending June 30, 1941. Of this $1,300,000 would lie spent on the Blue Ridge Park way. During the current fiscal year, $4,500,000 has been avall- M'iile for the two parkways, with $3,150,000 going to the Blue Ridge project. The proposed ap propriation therefore represents a . cvero slash. Weaver pointed out, however, that the work on the parkway will not he slowed as much as was (eared at the oiit.set, since a good diare of the funds appropriated I 'i'st year are as yet unexpended land will ho available in the new- fiscal year. •-f * NOW SHOWING NOT RECOM.mended FOR CHILDREN HAL ROACH pXti4^tt» A Miqhry Novel...A SoiisoHoimI Sfogo tvccoss I NOW. th« TSAR'S MOST IMPORTANT PICTURI I.VCItK.lSKS Cash income from farm mar- i'cetii'gs and government payments i n Jannaty totaled $733,000,000. ■\ rise of nearly $100,000,000 over the income and payments of the I -ante month a year earlier. fcyJOHN STEINBECK -a NIRBS SEHIIITH ■ Km nOD • LM CIUKT k.
