SNACfS “YO
TOM EDISON”
Giving Mickey Rooney his first
portrayal of s real life character,
a role in which the boy star has
an opportunity to prove that he
la a genuine actor, “Young Tom
Edison” opens at the Dtberty The
atre next Thursday and Friday
for an engagement of two days.
Not only does this picture pre-
.sent Rooney with his first bi
ographical role 'but It is the first
such role ever given a Juvenile
player, despite the fact that many
adults have played real-life char
acters repeatedly.
"Young Tom Edison" also
marks the second teaming of
Mickey with Virginia Weidler,
who scored as his nemesis in
"Out West with the Hardys.”
She plays his sister in the pres
ent picture, a role which Holly
wood believes will definitely make
her a star. In the two other stel
lar roles of the picture. Fay Baln-
ter plays Mrs. Edison and George
Bancroft, .Air. Edison. Others in
the cast are Eugene Pallette, Vic
tor Kilian, Bobbie Jordan, J. M.
Kerrigan, Lloyd Corrigan, John
Kellog. Clem Bevans, Elly Mal-
yon and Harry Shannon.
The picture also renews a star-
director-producer combination of
outstanding interest. Directoi
Norman Taurog and Producer
John W. Considine, Jr., were to
gether in those capacities on the
sensational "Boys Town,” i n
which Mickey was a co-star.
The story is an intense human-
interest one. complete in itself al
though it covers only the boyhood
of Thomas A- Edison. Replete
with comedy, drama, tears, thrills
and adventure, it is basically the
story of the triumph of a typical
American boy who bad to show
his home folks that he was not
the numbskull they believed him
to be.
