Coffey, Sr., charm- ■^ngly entertained the membere of the Friday Book club', of j which she Is a member, at the •Woman’s clubhouse on Trogdon Street Friday afternoon, also a large number of additional guests. An entertaining feature of the afternoon was a talk on buttons given by Mrs. Coffey, telling about their origin, popu larity, usefulness, button collec tors and a number of other items pertaining to the button. Follow ing her talk guests were asked to guess the number of buttons In a bowl, in which Mrs. J. H. Whicker, Sr. was the winner, re ceiving an attractive boutonniere. Mrs. J. C. McDiarmid presided for roll call, which was made by Mrs. W. E. Jones, members re sponding with jokes. At the close of the afternoon the guests were seated at a long table, where covers were laid for twenty-nine, and were served delicious re- jfreshments. The table, spread with a white cloth, held several lovely bowls of the yellow jon quils, while iiiiiividual jonquils with names attached served as place cards. Other bowls of jon quils were placed about the spa cious clubroom. At Pwty " Mrs. Warner Miller’ and Mrs. .Hable Smithey entertained at a delightful party at the Miller home Saturday evening honoring 'Miss Constance Smithey, student at Mars Hill College, who was here vlsltln# her mother, Mrs. Smithey. Around twenty-five boys and girls were present and were entertained with a number of games and contests in which priz es were given. Delicious refresh ments were served by the hostess es at the close of the evening.
