cher led the devotional period
and Mrs. N. 0. Smoak was in
charge of the business session. A
social hour and refreshments
were enjoyed at the close of the
meeting.

their houseguests, Betsy Lee and

roe, and Little Carolyn Goodman,
of Raleigh, who Is visiting in
their home, and also the J. S.
Alexander home. Around twelve
girls were present for the delight
ful occasion.

The members of Miss Rebecca
Brame’s Sunday school class of
the North Wilkesboro Methodist
church enjoyed a delightful picnic
at Bluff Park on the scenic high
way Tuesday afternoon. Around
fourteen were present. Mrs. Mary
Moore Hlx assisted Miss Brame
in taking the girls to the picnic
grounds.

Memorial Services Sunday
Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Cowles at
tended the annual memorial day
services and homecoming day
celebration at Msronies Metho
dist church, near Goldston, in
Chatham county, on Sunday. The
land on which the church stands
was donated by the late William
B. Meroney and his wife. Mr.
Meroney being a great-great
grandfather of Mrs. Cowles on
the maternal side.
Sunday marked the 124th an
niversary of Mr. Meroney's death,
1 having died in 1816. He was
■ buried at Old Bethesda church
