Presbyterian Church R^v. S. I). CRANE, Minister If you had been in jail In Jeru salem in the year 5S7 B. C., when the powerful Babylonian army of Nebuchadnezzar wa.s besieging the city, would you have invested in real estate near-by? Jeremiah did. Yet we call him “the weep ing prophet” and think of him as the very epitome of pessimism. Buying land that is already in the hands of tne enemy looks more like the height of optimism! He must have had a tremendous faith in the future. We may h.ave hopes for the future, too: but are they founded upon the same solid rock on which the prophet founded his? Let us think together about this Sunday in our morning wor ship. At 7:30 (rather than at 7:15 as We have been meeting during the short winter days) we shall have our evening worship. The study classes will begin at 7:50. The adults will continue their study of the book of John. Every one coming to the class is asked to bring his Bible. The Young People will study their new organization and pro gram. Each member of the coun cil will present to the group his part in the work. After the brief talks by the members of the coun cil there will be a “quiz” on the work as a whole. When Hedy takes up astrology on the advice of her fluttery neighbor, Spring Byington, she doesn’t know what she is letting herself in for. The first thing Bill knows he mustn’t kiss her on Tuesday. I?ut In spite of his pro test Hedy wdn’t give up her horo scope. Things reach a head when Madame Syblll (Pa^ Balnter) pre dicts that within a certain period Hedy will meet a “dark man from far off places who will be the true love of her life.” When Air Raid Warden James Craig knocks at Hedy’s door asking her to put out the light Hedy decides she cannot combat destiny. Enter husband Powell trying to straighten out his wife’s martial shennanigans, and the fun is only beginning. Mix in a collision be tween his comet and the moon while Craig and Hedy find them selves alone in a mountain shack, and hilarity runs high. Lovely Hedy Lamarr was never more beautiful than as she ap pears in a special wardrobe de signed by Irene. In her first at tempt at light comedy she car ries off her role with the assur ance of a veteran. William Powell, of the “lifted-eyebrow” school of humor, does an about face with scenes in the film calling for him to squirt a hose in Spring Bylng- ton’s face and even dance a kazotsky while under the Influ ence of vodka. The third angle of the triangle is capably filled by handsome James Craig.
