McNeill, Jr., of Purlear, N. C„ Is Greensboro, Oct. 17.—Dr. E. L. Stamey, 84, one of Greensboro’s older residents, died at his resi dence here today following an ex tended illness. He was active In the medical and religious life of the community until his retire ment four years ago. He served as medical director of Keely Insti tute here for 28 years and was recognized as an authority on al coholism. The funeral will be con ducted at West Market Streqt Methodist church Wednesday at 4 p. m. Burial will follow here. Dr. Stamey was a native of Burke county. He attended Ca tawba college and Vanderbilt uni versity and was ordained as a Methodist minister but following an illness that affected his throat Jr., Raleigh; and A. W. Stamey of High Point; two daughters, Mrs. W. H. Branson’S^ Mn.^W. M. Nicholson of Durham; a brother, Forney Stamey of Payette, Idaho; and a sister, Mrs. Lillie Herring, Winston-Salem. P. Noble, now at Gastonia. Rev. Mr. Smith will fill tl^e pul pit at the chui;ch here Sunday. Commenting on bis transfer to Marion, Rev. Mr. Smith stated that he appreciated very deeply the cooperation extended him by the people of his church and com munity here.
