Jessica Marlow Has Valentine Party Little Miss Jessica Marlow was hostess at a Valentine party at the home of her grandpar ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Hix, on D Street Thursday afternoon. A round twenty children were pres ent for the party and enjoyed a number of Valentine games and contests, after which they were Invited into the dining room where refreshments were served by Mrs. Hix and Jessica's moth er, Mrs. William Marlow. For favors the guests were given Valentine hats and baskets of Valentine candles. Support the Y. M. C. A. Hardison-Cranor Engagement Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Hardlson, of Arapahoe, announce the en gageement and approaching mar riage of their daughter, Wini fred, to Prank Taylor, Cranor, Jr., of Raleigh. The wedding to take place on Saturday, March let, in the Arapahoe Methodist church. Mr. Cranor is the young est son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank T. Cranor, of North Wilkesboro. Friday Book Club Met With Mrs. J. C. Reins The Valentine motif made an attractive setting for the mem bers of the Friday afternoon Book club in their meeting held Friday afternoon with Mrs. J. G. Reina at her home on B Street. Visitors of the club included Mrs. Johnson J. Hayes, Mrs. F. C. For ester, and Mrs. F. B. Hethcock. Mrs. Watt Cooper 'presided for In teresting news items, which were featured with the origin of Val entine being given by Mrs. C. D. Coffey, Sr. At the close of the meeting the guests were Invited into the dining room where a salad course was served buffet style. Centerpiece for the dining table emphasised the Valentine note. Mrs. Ira Payne Entertains Her Club The members of the Current Topic club and a few extra guests were delightfully entertained by Mrs. Ira Payne at her home on Fifth Street Wednesday after noon. Three tables were arrang ed for rook in an attractive set ting emphasizing the patriotic colors, red, white and blue, the appointments being in keeping with Lincoln's birthday. At the close of play the hostess served a salad course with sweets and was assisted by her two young daughters, Bettie Chloe and Sarah Jane Payne. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. C. E. Jenkins, Sr., for top score, to Mrs. J. M. Crawford for sec ond high score, to Mrs. Hoyle Hutchens for low score, and to Mrs. F. C. Forester for honors. First Methodist Juniors Have Party The members of the Junior choir and other. children in the Junior Department of the North Wilkeaboro First Methodist church were given a Valentine rpsftynsr" the-" j ~ afternoon. Thirty children were present and were directed in Valentine games and contests, in which a number of prizes were given, by Miss Jo Lassiter, choir director, being assisted .by Mrs. Darwin 8mlthey and Miss Mamie Sockwell. Other Junior workers present were *Mrs. . Joe Pearson and Mrs. C. T. Doughton. Dixie cups were served at the close of the afternoon, and Valentines distributed from a large Valen tine box. Stewart-Veasey Vows Wednesday Sanatorium, N. C., Feb. 12.? Miss Bessie Lee Stewart, of Wil kesboro, became the bride of Mr. Harry W. Veasey, of Raeford, in an impressive ceremony which took place in the Aberdeen Bap tist Parsonage Wednesday after noon at three o'clock, February 12. Stewart of Wilkesboro. She is a graduate of the Wilkesboro High School and the North Caroling Sanatorium School of Nursing, Sanatorium, N. 0., where she is now employed as Wafd Super visor. Mr. Veasey is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Veasey of Raeford, j N. C. He attended Wake For College and eerrred four with the Armed Force* European Theatre.
