Miss Betty Whicker -is spend ing a few days, in Greenstwro with her sister, Mrs. Harry Kel lett. Mrs. Gorman Johnson is a pa tient at Long's hospital in States ville following an operation. Mrs. Florence M. Bentley, of Ronda, Is recovering from an operation Wednesday of last week at the Wilkes hospital. Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Turner, of 1007 Trogdon Street, are spend ing their vacation in Washington, D. C., and Richmond, Va. - The home of Mrs. C. Y. Miller in Wilkesboro has recently been painted, adding much to the at tractiveness of the residence. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Caldwell, of Wilkesboro, are enjoying a va cation trip to Washington, D. C. this week. Miss Mary Ann Tomlinson, from Winston-Salem, spent, week end here at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tomlinson. | Mr. A. G. Miller, of this city, received Ms degree In civil engineering Monday at North Car olina State College. - Mr. Ward Eehelman arrived home by plane on Monday from Rollins College, Florida, where he has been in school for the past year. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Buchan and Mr. Ralph Buchan, of this city, attended funeral and buyial ser vices held for Miss Idell Buchan at Aberdeen Tuesday. Miss Buch an was an aunt of the Messrs. Buchan. Miss Peggy Nichols, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Nichols, and Miss Beth Jones, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. F. Jones, went to Raleigh Tuesday to begin work during the summer for the Baptist Sunday School board. Mr. Joe Clements left Tuesday for New York City to attend apd to serve as usher at the wedding of Mr. David Bouldin and Miss Ann Falshaw. Mr. Clements and Mr. Bouldin were room mates at North Carolina State College. Mrs. W. M. Hearn left Tues day for her home in Littletown, N. J., after spending 10 days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grady Miller, of North Wllkes boro, and Mrs. Ida Moore Hearn, at Weaverville. John Q. Bryan, son of Attor ney and Mrs. T. R. Bryan, re turned home Saturday from Biltmore hospital in Asheville, where he recently had seven foot operations. He is getting along fine. i , ' Mr. and Mrs. John1 T. His parents attended the graduation Monday at Raleigh. Miss Elizabeth Alexander was a recent graduate from the music department of Limestone College which Is located at Gaffney, S. C. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Alexander, and brothers, Bil lie and Bobby, of Wilkesboro, at tended the graduation exercises. Mr. W. R. Harmon, Jr., re ceived his degree in electrical engineering Monday at State College in Raleigh. He has ac cepted a position with the mobile telephone unit of Western Elec tric company in Winston-Salem and Burlington. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Harmon, attend ed the commencement exercises Monday. Miss Frances Hall Rousseau, daughter of Judge and Mrs. J. A. Rousseau, 813 D Street, North Wilkesboro, received the Bache lor of Arts degree from Greens boro College at - commencement exercises last week. Senator Clyde R. Hoey delivered the commencement address; Dean Luther A. Welgle, of the Yale Di vinity School, preached the bac calaureate sermon.
