Football Subject Kiwanis Program Here Friday Noon Arthur Venable and Rich • ard Johnston Explain Game To Club The North Wilkesboro Kiwan is club held an Interesting meet ing Friday noon at Hotel Wilkes. Program Chairman Paul Os borne, brought the club an in teresting program on the subject of "Football." He gave certain remarks pertinent to the desire of a good many members to be familiarised with the rules of the game and then presented Arthur Venable, who played for Mercer in the years past and then coached high school foot ball In South Georgia for four years and after that coached a Louisville, Ky., team for three years. He gave a discussion and *" 1 — " " ■ii' " 111 ■ demonstration of various field plays. He used the blackboard to Illustrate several offensive and defensive plays. Richard Johnston was then presented to discuss the rules of the game and the penalties for their violation. He stressed the importance of the spirit of the game and the opportunity it of fers for fair play and that every thing short of that ideal is un sportsman like. Previous to the talks on foot ball, Miss Frances Miller, of Wllkesboro, sang, "My Hero" by Straus; and "The Hills of Home" by Pox. x Prior to the program Rev. H. M. Wellman reported that he had visited Dr. G. T. Mitchell, club president, in Duke Ciospital, and found him making progress to AN ORDINANCE Authorizing the Issuance of $5,500 of Bonds of The Town of North Wilkesboro For the Improve ment of Public Streets. . BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of the Town of North Wilkesboro, as follows: Section 1. The Board of Com missioners of the Town of North I Wilkesboro has ascertained and hereby determines that it is neces sary that said Town construct or reconstruct the surface of public streets in said Town and contem poraneously grade such street# and construct or reconstruct there on sidewalks, curbs, gutters and drains, and that it will be neces sary to expend for said purpose not less than $5,500. Section 2 . Said Board of Com missioners has also ascertained and hereby determines that the purpose hereinbefore described is a necessary expense of said Town within the meaning of Section 7 of Article VII of the Constitution of North Carolina, and is a purpose for which said Town may raise or appropriate money, and is not a current expense of said Town. Section 3. In order to raise the money required-for such purpose, bonds of the Town of North Wilkesboro are hereby authorized and shall be issued pursuant to The Municipal Finance Act, 1921, of North Carolina. The maximum aggregate airfount of bonds author ized by this ordinance shall be Five Thousand Five Hundred Dol lars ($5,500). No debt shall be contracted during any fiscal year by the issuance of bonds pursuant to this ordinance if the amount of such debt and of all other debt contracted during such fiscal year shall exceed two-thirds of the amount by which the outstanding indebtedness of said Town shall have been reduced during the next preceding fiscal year, unless the incurring of such debt shall be submitted to a vote of the people of said Town and shall be ap proved by a majority of those who shall vote thereon. Section 4. A tax sufficient to pay the principal of and interest on said bonds shall be annually levied and collected. Section 5. A statement of the debt of said Town has been filed with the Town Clerk and Treasur er of said Town, as required by said Act, and is open to public in spection. Section 6. This ordinance shall take effect thirty days after its first publication unless In the meantime a petition for its sub mission to the voters is filed un der said Act, and, in such event, it shall take effect when approved by the voters of said Town at an election as provided in said Act. The foregoing bond ordinance was passed on the 11th day of September, 1947, and was first published on the 15th day of Sep tember, 1947. Any action or proceeding ques tioning the validity of said ordi nance must be commenced within thirty days after its first publica tion. W. P. O"" Millers Creek Club Donates to School The Millers Creek Home Dem onstration Club has recently com pleted two projects In helping the local school. The club had a large sign painted on the fro A of the main school ibuilding and placed a new electric range In the Home Economics Depart ment. The sign and the range were paid for from funds raised by the club. Last Wednesday and Thursday Miss Addle Malone, a representative of the Duke Pow er Company, gave the Home Economics classes demonstra tions on how to use the new range. The local Home Demonstra tion Club is at the present time headed by Mrs. M. F. Buirigar ner as president and Mrs. W. P. Bum garner as secretary-treasur er. Warren Reunion The children and grandchil dren of Mrs. Belle Warren and the late Cager Warren of Wll kesboro met at the home for a family reunion Sunday, Sept.' 7th, the first meeting since Mr. War ren's death, July 12, 1936. The children and grandchil dren were Mr. and Mrs. David E. Warren and children, Lou Jean, Marie, and Paulette, of Douglas, Ga.; Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Warren, of Cricket; Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Carlton and son, Phil, of Wilkesboro; Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Rich and daughter, Linda, of Durham; M-Sgt. and Mrs. Paul Warren, of Cherry Point; Misses Pearl and Eulala and Mr. Clyde Warren of the home. One grandson, D. E. War ren, Jr., was missing as he is stationed in Alaska with the Army Air Corps. v Everyone enjoyed a wonderful day together at the old home with mother.—Reported.
