. \ I Mrs. T. O. Crowell Is confined in the Wilkes hospital with a severe case of pneumonia. Mr. and Mrs. John Andrews, of Boomer, had as their guests thi8 week-end Mr. and Mrs. Carl Matthews and Mr. D. R. Pegram, of Kernersrllle. Master Clayton Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Thompson, who underwent a tonsllar operation at the Wilkes hospital Friday, is recovering nicely. Mr. Avery Minton, of Wilkesboro, underwent a serious operation at the Wilkes Hospital last week. Friends will toe glad to learn he is recovering nicely. Miss Grace Frank Kilby returned to her home here Saturday after spending six months in Tuscon, Arizona, with Mrs. R". P. Casey and daughter, Misg Bobble Casey. Miss Casey, who is there in the interest of her health, Is getting along nicely. Miss Bettye Hill, Mr. Rom Robinson, and Mr. and Mrs. Mark Phillips apent the past several days in Asheville and other points of interest in western [North Carolina. Mr. R'. T. Pardue is here from Harker's Island visiting With relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Pardue have Just moved into their new home on the island. Mr. W. L. Yates, well known citizen of Wilkesboro, has been ill for several days and a patient at Davis hospital in Statesville since Saturday. He underwent an operation Wednesday. Miss Gozelle Andrews, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. G. Andrews, of Boomer, spent the week-end at home. Miss Andrews is a senior at A, S. T. C. this year. Mr. W. F. Gaddy has purchased the former R. G. Miller farm from Mr. Earl Anderson and Mr. Anderson has purchased the Jesse Reins residence in Wilkesboro. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Minton have moved to the Keller Bller residence on Oakwoods Road. The home was recently purchasI ed from Mr. Eller by Mr. Spurgeon Minton, of this city. Miss Bertha Sockwell, o f Greensboro, and Mr. and Mrs. William J. Sockwell and two daughters, Misses Emma Lou and Helen Jo Sockwell, of Gibsonville, spent the week-end here with Mrs. C. L. Sockwell and Miss Mamie Sockwell. STORE FOR SALE! Richard Johnston and two young song, Billy and Dicky, visited in Elkin Sunday afternoon with Mr. Johnson's grandmother, Mrs. Minnie Hunt, who Is spending awhile there in the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. L. Lovelace. Miss Reba Thompon, who is an instructor at the Barium Springs Orphanage, was a weekend guest of Mrs. Louise Alexander and Miss Gray Greene. Miss Thompson was accompanied to Wilkesboro by Miss Edmonla Blakley, also a member of the Orphanage faculty. Mr. W. W. Gam bill and son, Mr. W. S. Gambill, of Dockery, nad Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Garwood, of Winston-Salem, have returned to their respective homes after a -visit with Mr. W. W. Gambill's brother, Mt. John F. Gambill, at pecatur, Illinois. Mrs Garwood is the daughter of Mr and Mrs. W. W. Gambill. Mrs. W. E. Gaither and son Mr. J. W. Gaither, report a most interesting stay in Charlotte during the recent Methodist confer ence there. Mrs. Gaither particularly enjoyed the testimony service, sermon by Bishop Purcell and the ordination of 17 young ministers. Mrs.,Gaither and family attended a conference at the Dilworth Methodist church Id 1938 as delegates from the Millers Creek circuit. Dr. W. A. Taylor celebrated hl8 75th birthday Sunday with his five daughters and their families present. Dr. Varina Taylor and husband, Dr. P. D. Warren, of Huntsville, Ala., their son, Bonner Warren, and roommate, Lewis Bingham, of Davidson College; Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Woman's Society Met Tuesday Evening Twenty-seven members were present for the October meeting of'the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the, North "Wllkesboro First Methodist church held Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Gilbert R. Combs.
