Yatea, of Wilkeaboro, who underwent an. operation Wednesday at ^Davls hospital in Statesville. Mrs. Robert Beckham, of Gastonia,' spent the week-end with her father, Mr. Richard Johnson, of North Wilkqsboro, Route 1. She is the former Miss Virginia Johnson. Commodore and Mrs. Ernest M. Eller and two sons, Peter and John, of Annapolis, Md., spent Saturday in the home of Commodore Eller's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Eller. Br. Richard Parker and daughter, Mrs^ W. G. Darnell, of Murphy, visited Dr. Parker's mother, Mrs. Nancy Parker, 95, in \he Hunting Creek community over the week-end. While here they also spent several hours viBitlng friends in Wilkesboro. Mr. and Mrs. Murphy Hunt and Mr. and Mrs. J. Q. Adams spent the week-end at Cullowhee with the Hunts' sons, Messrs. Joe and Pat Hunt, who are students at Western Carolina Teachers College. They went up especially for the observance of Home Coming Week-end. Mr. Bill Gardner, of New York and Atlanta, was in the city last week visiting with the manager and sales personnel of the local J. C. Penney Company store. Mr. Gardner Is a Penney company district manager and has 66 stores in his district which is composed of North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Miss Blanche Ferguson, of Wilkesboro, Mrs. John L. Ferguson, of Benson, and Miss May Hill, of Scranton, Pa., are visiting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Ferguson at Curies Neck Farm near Richmond, Va. Miss Hill, who had been a guest for several weeks here with Miss Ferguson, will return to her home from Richmond. Mesdameg William C. Marlow, Vernon Deal, Richard Johnston, and Darwin Smithey, were visitors In Charlotte Friday. They went over especially for a visit to the Mint Museum. They had Miss Sue Morlng Clements, of this city, who holds a position in Charlotte, as their luncheon gueet. Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Kearus and daughter, Blberta, of Greensboro, and Miss Hope Hubbard; of Parmer, visited relatives at Moravian Falls and Wllkesboro ■yesterday. They were returning to their respective homes after a trip to Asheville where Mr. Kearne attended a Shriners' meeting. Mrs. J. C. Reins, Miss Kate Finley and Miss Cora Ellefl Ingram attended the convention of the North Carolina Library Association held In Winston-Salem October J£. Mrs. Reins and Miss Finley represented .the Wilkes •ounty Public Library and Miss Ingram is North Wllkesboro school librarian. } Two students from North (Wllkesboro appear upon the current Dean's list of Mars Hill college. They are Dean' Lincoln Minton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey "L. Minton, and Cecil L. Porter, sojj of Mr. and Mrs. R. Lj Porter. Minton is a second year ministerial student at the College. Porter was elected last week to membership in the International Relations club which requires thirty quality credits and an especial interest in the social sciences. To qualify for the Dean's list, a student must have made at least forty quality credits and be otherwise eligible. .. i S-Sgt. William Brewer, son of James N. Brewer, North Wllkesboro, North Carolina, was recently assigned as squad leader In the 23 rd Infantry Regiment. S-Sgt. Brewer entered the army on Oct. 1946, at Fort Bragg. Sgt. Brewer took Infantry basic at Fort McClellan, Alabama. He was then moved to Camp Pickett, Va.,1 for overseas shipment but missed all quotas for all shipments, and then was transferred to Company E of the 23rd Infantry Regiment. Sgt. Brewer has a brother who is a Sergeant in the Marine Corp and who Is stationed at Parris Island, S. C. for the time, being. Sgt. Brewer attended thel Roaring River high school before1 entering the army. • Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Critcher and ^daughter, Little Miss Elizabeth ' Critcher, of Moravian Palls, spent the week-end in Asherllle with Mr. entailer's brother, Mr. J. C- Critcher, ana family. Mrs. J. L. Sikes, Mr. and Mrs. Paal Sikes and children, Brenda and Fred, spent the week-end with relatives in the Millers Creek and Purlear communities. Mrs. J. L. Sikes remained for a week's visit with her mother, Mrs. Julia Nichols. Mr. C. A. Little and daughter, Miss Katherine Little of Globe, Arizona, were guests several days, last week of Mr. Little's sister, Mrs. N. B. Smithey, and niece, Mrs. Kyle Hayes. While in the state they also visited Mr. Little's sister, Mrs. W. A., Hahn, in Hickory, and before returning to Arizopa they will visit with Mr. Little's brother, Mrs. K. S. Little, at Amelia, Va. o j Social Calendar The T. E. L class of the North Wilkes bo ro First Baptist church will meet Tuesday evening, 7:80 o'clock, at the home of Mrs. John Joines with Mrs. Bessie Harrison as cohostess. The Rendezvous Mountain chapter of the daughters of the American Revolution will meet Tuesday afternoon, four o'clock, at the home of Mrs. Allen D. Morehouse on the Brushy Mountains with Mrs. J. Bason and Mrs. J. B. McCoy as associate hostesses. The Wilkesbbro Woman's club is sponsoring a benefit card party at the Community House in Wilkesboro Tuesday evening, October 28, play to begin at 7:80 o'clock. For reservations call Mrs. Presley Myers. The North Wilkesboro Junior Woman's club is sponsoring a benefit card party at the Woman's clubhouse, Thursday evening, October 80, beginning at 7:80 o'clock.
