Smith-Billings Vows Are Announced The marriage of Mlae Annie Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Smith, of North Wllkesboro, and Herbert Odell Billings, eon of Hit H. 0. Billings, of North Wllkeaboro, and the late Mr. Billings, took place on Saturday. August 16, at th? home of Rer. Jeese Tale, who was the officiating minister. Those present for the ceremony were Mrs. Tale, and Mrs. Mable Love, of Millers Creek. The couple are now at home at 210 1 Street, North Wllkeaboro. Garden Club Met Tuesday Afternoon The November meeting of the Garden club, a department of the North Wilkesboro Woman's club, was held Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. P. C. Forester with Mrs. R. J. Hinshaw and Mrs. Johnson J. Hayes as associate hostesses. Mrs. Edd P. Gardner, the president, was in charge of the business part of the meeting. Refreshments were served during the social hour. Por the program Mrs. Forester presented Mr. John Ford, farm Awester, who made a most lnterfcy-rg and helpful talk on trees. . Ford, In the beginning of hB most Informative talk divided the tree into its different parts, its root system, trunk and crown. He told the function of each part. There are several ways of classifying trees. Some distinguish them by calling them evergreens, which do not shed leaves every year, and the deciduous trees which do. Mr. Ford was very disturbed about the treatment we give our trees. We havent learned to prune them properly. ' ,'""1 Pre-Nuptial | Courtesies Extended (Miss Hix * A series erf parties were given for Miss Mary Moore Hix, who wag married Saturday afternoon, four o'clock, to James Franklin Dalton, of Asheville, the wedding taking place at the home of the bride's grandmother, Mrs. J. D.j Moore, Sr. Miss Mary Louise Newton was hostess at a dinner party at the Wilkes Hotel Thursday evening honoring Miss Hix. Dinner was served at 6:30 o'clock with covers laid for eight. Guests besides the hostess and honoree were Misses Pat McNiel, Lucille Casey, Harriett Crutchfield, Elizabeth McNeil, Geraldine Caldwell, and Mrs. Robert Smoak. Honor gift for the bride, whose place was marked with a corsage of white carnations, was lovely linen. On Friday afternoon Miss Pat McNiel and Miss Lucille Casey were hostesses* at a "Come-and•Sit" tea at the McNleil home on Sixth Street as a courtesy to Miss Hix. Around twenty-four guests of the younger set came at 4:30 o'clock and during the hour were I served a tea course by the hostesses, who were assisted by Mrs. Russell Gray, Jr. The honoree received from the hostesses a Bride's Book and a corsage of white roses. Mrs. Robert Smoak, the former Miss Gordon Reins, j was also remembered with a ! gift. The decorations and refreshj ments emphasized the bridal i note. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Hix, grandparents of the bride-elect, gave the wedding breakfast at their home on D Street Saturday having as guests members of the bridal party and out of town visitors here for the wedding. Covers were laid for sixteen. A color scheme of yellow and white predominated in the table appointments, the dining table being spread with a yellow cloth, and the flowers furthered the accepted motif. M^s. Jack Brame and Mrs. William Marlow, daughters of the hosts, assisted in serving the breakfast. Mrs. Gordon Finley Book Club Hostess Mrs. Gordon Finley was gracious hostess to the members of Friday Book club at her home on E Street Friday afternoon. Mrs. Watt M. Cooper, the president, presided for the business session, and roll call'was made by Mrs. Joe E. Johnson, memberg responding with interesting news items. Books were exchanged during the afternoon. At the close of the meeting the guests were seated at the dining table, where a dessert course was serv«d. Wednesday Sewing Club Met With Mrs. C. D. Coffey, Jr. A called meeting of the Wednesday Sewing club was held with Mrs. C. Don Coffey, Jr., at her home on Ninth Street Wednesday afternoon. Mm. Coffey, the outgoing president, presided for the bosiness session during which time plans for the club were discussed, and Mrs. W. J. Bason was elected as the new president. Light refreshments were served at the close of the meeting. Mrs. Norris Huffman Feted at Shower Mrs. Norris Huffman, the former Miss Virginia Eller, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Pller, of Purlear, was given a kitchen and linen shower at the home of Mrs. Taft Poster with inn. *ina auor h hiuchm aur tess on Wednesday evening, November 5. The entertainment for the evening was provided by the Wilkes county Entertainers, and was enjoyed by the large number of friends present. The bride received many beautiful gifts. Thd hostesses were aided by Mrs. Jack HUer and Mrs. Jack Triplett in serving refreshments. Legion Auxiliary In' Monthly Meeting Mesdames W. R. Absher, J. G. Bentley, Tal Barnes, Ray Barnes. W. J. Bason, Ralph Bowman and' Homer Brookshlre were hostesses for the' monthly meeting o{ the Legion Auxiliary held at the Legion hut Monday evening. Mrs. Edward Bell was in charge of tbe business session. Commander Ray Stroud, of the American Legion, talked to the group on the plans of ~ the American Legion in regards to the newly organized National Guard unit, also the planB for the district meeting of the American Legion to be In North Wllkesboro Legion hut, November 20. Mrs. Bell and Mrs. Carl Buchan, recording secretary, resigned from their offices. Refreshments were served during the social hour. Class Tn Monthly Meeting The Euzelian Sunday School class of the North Wilkesboro First Baptist church met Tuesday evening with Mrs. Flake Cook at her home in Wilkesboro with Mrs. Bill Johnson as associate hostess. Mrs. Bill Miller wag the devotional leader, and Mrs. Charles Manship was in charge of a Thanksgiving program. The president, Mrs. B. F. Bentley, presided for the usual routine of business. Fifteen members were present and were served refreshments during the soi cial hour. \ Mrs. Williamson Is Given Shower of Gifts Twenty-three members were present far the business and social meeting of the Fldells class of the Wilkes boro Baptist church held Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Claude Kennedy with Mrs. Roy Barnes as associate hostess. Mrs. Charles McNeil, second vice president, wag in charge of the business session and the devotionals were led by Mrs. Elmer Lowe. During the social hour Mrs. A. A.
