In appreciation of the splendid I record made thus far during the : 1947 season, patrons and citizens of the Wilkesboro community honored Ooach Eddie Adelman and his Ramblers football team and cheer leaders at a banquet Monday evening at the Carolina Restaurant. Aibout 100 people attended the gathering. Paul Osborne opened the meeting by calling on Attorney T. R. Bryan to serve as toastmastor, and again Attorney Bryan served in this capacity in a most delightful manner. The program opened with Invocation being spoken by Mr. William T. Long, school superintendent. During the evening, the 'cheer leaders gave some of their rousing cheers, and each member of the football team was asked to stand for recognition, especial recognition being given to Captain Jack Groce, who has already led his team to one of the best records ever made by a Wilkesboro high football team, and to Bill Whittington, quarterback. Those recognized for styort talkg during the meeting by Toastmaster Bryan were: Messrs. William T. Long, Zeb V. Dickson, Robert M. Gamibill. Attorney F. J. McDuffie, Julius C. Hubbard, Troy C. Foster, Arthur Groce, Arlon Triplett, J. H. Somers, Dewey Parker, Perry R'. Lowe, B. B. Banner, George S. Parlier, O. K. Wlhittington, R. R. Church, Edward Mclntyre, Sherman Anderson, Earl Caudill, E. E. Vaught, and Mesdames N L. Porter, Oma McLain, and G. T. Mitchell. A highlight of the banquet meeting was the presentation by Bill Jester of a purse of $150.00 given by citizens and patrons of the school to Coach Adelman in appreciation of the fine wor£ he has done with the boys. Messrs. James Osborne, Howard Pharr, and Richard Cranor served as the committee on finance and arrangements for the delightful football banquet. Mr. Earl Caudill was host to the members of the Wilkesboro football team at a theatre party Tuesday night at the Allen Theatre. o Legion to Meet Wilkes post of the American Legion will meet tonight, 7:30, at the Legion clubhouse. All members and other veterans are invited to attend. o :— Mr. A. G. Bumgarner, a well known farmer of the Millers Creek community, was a visitor here Wednesday.
