Raymer had as her guests last week Miss Bertha Cltne, -of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. Ia A. Brrln, of Stateeville. Miss Hilda Dennis, a student at Lees McKae, Banner Elk, spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. A. €. Dennis. Mrs. Charlie C. Smoot, of Blowing Rock, spent the weekend here to the home of Mrs. James C. Smoot. Mies Clarence Snowden, of Alexandria, Va., was a visitor here for several days in the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Flnley. Mrs. Bessie R. Grayson has returned from spending ten days in Winston-Salem with her sister, Miss Myrtle Jenkins. Miss Mary Elmore Finley, member of the Senior Class at Salem College, spent the weekend here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Finley. Mrs. Irene Meade and son, Mr. Robert Meade, of this city, are spending two week8 at Keysville, Va. in Che homes of Mrs. I. It. EJggleston and Mrs. Walter Dickson. Mrs. W. B. Shuford, of Charlotte, Bpent the week-end here with friend*. Mrs. Shuford formerly held a position with the Wilkeg Hotel. Mrs. O. C. riolcomib visited in Blkin from Saturday until Monday in the homes of her sons, Messrs. Marshall and Hugh Holcomb. Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Winters and family have moved from Ninth street to the Mark Steelman house on D street. Mrs. John T. MacBride, of Newfoundland, recently visited her father, Mr. B. F. Estee, here, and was joined toy her husband, Lt. Col. John T. MacBride. Miss Rebecca Hayes, student at Greensboro College, was here tor the week-end with her parents, Judge and Mrs. Johnson J. Hayee. Mr. Benny Parks, of Halifax, and a student at Mars Hill College, visited here during the week-end in the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Crook. Miss Carolyn Byrd was home from Pfeiffer College the past week-end visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Byrd, in Wilkesboro. MrT and Mrs. T. W. Ferguson, o f Ferguson, returned home Monday from Columbus, Ohio, I where they had attended the ' National Grange Convention. Miss Katherine Flnley, who hods a position as Laboratory Technician in a Burington hospital, spent the week-end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Finley. Messrs. G. G. Fostpr and Bryce Sebastian were in Atlanta, Ga. this week attending a Studebaker dealers' meeting as representative of the Motor Market, local Studebaker dealer. Mr. and Mrs. James Albert Dennis, and Mr. Robert Dennis, students at A. S. T. C. at Boone, attended Wilkesboro and North Wilkesboro football game Friday night. Mr. R. B. Patterson and & business associate of his in Lake Worth, Florida, visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pennell a short while Sunday. Mr. Patterson Is a brother-in-law of Mrs. Pennell. He was in this section in the interest of buying lumber for reconstruction work in the storm stricken area of Florida. Mr. William Netherland and son, Mr. Lewis Netherland, of Ballsvllle, Va., visited here from Sunday until Tuesday In the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Reins. The former Mr. Notherland Is a brother of Mrs. Reins. Seaman Second Class James O. Hamby has completed boot training in the navy at San Diego, California. Hamby, son of C. C. Hamby, of Paraonvllle, enlisted In the navy August 30. Mrs. R. R. Church returned to her home In Wllkesboro Wednesday from Memorial Hospital In Charlotte, where she had been a patient for ten days. Friends are glad to learn that her condition te much improved. Mr. W. G. Gabriel, manager of Belk's here, is in New York City on a ibuying trip. On Saturday he saw the Army-Pennsylvania J football game, in which his j nephew, Cadet Charlie Gabriel,' played quarterback on the Westj Point Army team. Miss Kathryn Troutman, accompanied by friends from Gastonia, where she is teaching this year, visited here Sunday afternoon in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chal McNiel. Miss Troutman Is a former member of the public school faculty of this city. James G. Parsons, seaean second class, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Turner Parsons, of Parsonville, completed recruit training at San Diego, California recently. He enlisted In the navy August 1. Seaman*Second dlass P. U. B. Pruitt, husband of Mrs. Anzie Pruitt, of North Wllkesboro, has completed recruit training at San Diego, California. During train-1 ing his company number 086 won four personnel pennants. He enlisted In the navy at Raleigh l 'August 12. Misses Nonle Gordon, who is teaching at Lexington, and Miss Lucille Young, a member of the Mooresville school faculty, were guests during the week-end in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chal McNiel. The visitors formerly taught in the North Wilkeeboro public school. iMr. and Mrs. L. C. Ferguson, Jr., and daughter, Miss Susan Ferguson, left Saturday for their home at Lake Arrow Head, California, following a visit here with Mies Blanche Ferguson and other relatives in the county. On their way home they will visit in Raleigh with Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Ferguson, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Ferguson, Jr., in Richmond, Va., with Mr. and Mrs. W. H.
