in an automobile accident on
the Fayetteville-Ralelgh highway.
Witnesses said Hunter's automobile,
in which he was riding alone,
left the 'highway and crashed
into a tree about six miles
north of Fayetteville. He died'before
he could be taken to a hospital.
Funeral service will be conducted
at 3 p. m. Monday at First
Presbyterian church.
Hunter is survived by his parents
and one sister, Miss Josephine
Hunter of Fayetteville.
His father is a prominent
wholesale distributor of electrioal
supplies. ;!
Mr. Hunter was a nephew of
Dr. E. N. Phillips and Mr. G. T.

of Commerce convened In Its
regular meeting at the Carolina
Restaurant. In the absence of
President Jerry Derr, Viee President
J. D. Moore called the
meeting to order, at which time
a motion was made and carried
that the J aycees were to go on
record In favor of Closing all
business establishments In Wilkesboro
and North Wilkmboro
from December 25 tthnriitgh December
28.; It was felt that this
four-day respite from work
would give all employees a mueh
needed rest and would be especially
In keeping with the Yuletide
season.
Richard Johnston Introduced
the speaker of the evening, Tom
Jenrette, secretary of the Wilkes
Chamber of Commerce, who delivered
a moet inspiring and
challenging address. Mr. Jenrette
called on the Jaycees to lend
their full support to the Flood
Control committee In its efforts
to conduct an educational program
designed to acquaint the
residents along Tadkln from
Wilkes county to Georgetown,
South Carolina, with the urgent
need for immediate control In
the river basin.
The Jaycees werep unanimous
in their approval to sponsor a
Christmas home decoration contest.
This contest would allow
all homes within a given area
an opportunity to be counted in
pn the contest. Decorations will
be judged, taking Into consideration
the amount of effort,
money, and means that goes into
the decoration, -the -location and
the spirit the scene portrays.
Full details of this contest will
be announced In the near future.
