The grave of Mrs. Millie Staley, a teacher in the Antloch Sunday School more than 50, years, was decorated. Rev. J. B. Ray preached at Cranberry and assisted the pas tor, Rev. L. T. Younger, in ad-1 ministering the communion serv ice. A big baptizing was held at the old Parks mill near Frank Staley's. A revival had been run ning at Oak Forest three weeks; there were many converts there and a hundred or more were sup posed to come from other places to be baptized. A men's chorus, consisting of sixty voices, sang at Cranberry Saturday night, June n. Rev. 'Herman Johnson preach ed at Cranberry church recent ly. Herman is a former resident of this locality, oldest son of the late Silas Johnson. The colored people held a Children's Day program and a spread dinner at their church, Union Grove, last Sunday. Young men friends from Salis bury visited Jim Frank and Shier ril Roberts over the week-end at the home their grandfather, Rev. N. T. Jarvis. Several friends and relatives from Cranberry expect to attend the wedding of Miss Bonnie Sue Jarvis, daughter of Mr. and "Mrs. Dwlght C. Jarvis, and Sidney Arnold Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy B. Martin, of Raleigh, at the First Baptist church, Hick ory, next Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Turner Church, of Boomer, will also attend. Child Suffocated » > By Rubber Balloon Elizabeth City, June 13.— Four-year-old boy died of suffo cation en route to a hospital her® today after swallowing a rubber balloon. Doctors said that little Ernest Douglas White was dead on ar rival at the hospital. The boys:' father, Ernest Shel ton White of Weeksville, said the child was walking across the yard and fell down. When the father reached him, little Ernest I was turning blue from lack of i air. He died a few minutes later. Gilliam Family I Holds Reunion By MRS J W. H. JONES The members of the Gilliam j family held their 17th consecu tire reunion Sunday, June 12, at the home of ^Sr. and Mrs. D. S. Gilliam five miles southwest of Elkin. The day was happily spent by thA large concourse of relatives, friends and neighbors ( of the familv, many of whom ga thered prion to the reunion fori the service | at Bethel church near the hdme of Mr. and Mrs. Gilliam. H. Jones madu the announcement of the registrations, and W. A. Stroud of Wilkesboro who was master of ceremonies, in the absence of the chairman of this organization, J. Scott Not Expected To Halt Execution Raleigh, June 13 Governor Scott has no intention at present of intervening in the death row case of James Edward Lewis, Paroles Commissioner T. C. Johnson said today. Lewis, a 26-year-old negro, is scheduled to die in Central Pris on's gas chamber Friday for the slaying of his wife. He was convicted in Robeson county of shooting his wife, Let tie McMillan Lewis, twice with a shotgun and then beating her with its stock.
