Rash of Lenoir today elected grand chancellor of ic North Carolina Orand lodge, Knights of Pythias, at the sev enty-eighth annual state-wide convention of the order at Jfotel Robert E. Lee, succeeding Robert D. Holloman of Durham. Other officers for the new year were elected as follows: Howard R. Whitener of Lin colnton, grmnu vice chancellor; R. Lawrence Cooper o# Cla;ton, grand pre»\te; Dewey W. Hug gins. of Clayton, grand secretary; Frank W. Grunert of Winston Salem, grand treasurer; J. W. Enoch of Durham, grand master of arms; W. ' A. McCorkle of Charlotte, grand inner guard; T. P. Kornegay of Goldsboro, grand outer guard; Frank P. Womack of Lenoir, Pythian home trustee. By vlrtup of his service throughout the last 10 years as grand treasurer, Frank W. Gru nort was officially elevated to the rank of past grand chancel lor. The Grand lodge decided to have its next annual convention in Goldsboro, with June 16, 1950, as the date. Three Charlotte Pythlans were honored by important appoint ments. They are W. Graham, district deputy grand chancellor of District 6; L. L. Caudle, Sr., chairman of grand judiciary com mittee^and Earle Wolfe, member of grand finance committee. Earn N. Genzderger of Butte, Mont., supreme vice chancellor of the Knights of Pythias, a lead ing convention speaker, talked of the effectiveness of the plan for reopening closed lodges and formation of new lodges. He ad vocated a large increase in the membership of each lodge throughout the territory occu pied by the Pythian order. Extensive improvements a t the Pythian home at Clayton were noted by Mr. Hollomon, re tiring grand chancellor. Children in the facility which is valued in excess of $150,000, number ap proximately 40, he reported. Officers of the Grand lodge for the new year were installed by Mr. Genzberger, supreme vice chancellor, as the closing phase of the convention today. The meeting began Tuesday morning. Flashers Use To Wytheville Three-Game Losing Streak Set* North Wilkesboro Back Into Third North Wilkesboro Flashers, who were off their usual good form in the field, dropped a 7 to 6 game here Tuesday night to the hard hitting Wytheville Statesmen. Showing only occasional flash es of the fielding prowess which makes the Flashers tops in the league on the field, North Wil kesboro completed three fast double killings but threw the ball around enough to let in four Wytheville runs by the er ror route, which was easily the margin of victory. Diminutive Bob Thompson pitched magnificently in the lat ter part of the game, but was hit hard in early innings by the Wytheville sluggers. But without the fielding miscues he would easily have been the winning pitcher. Pat Pescitelli was the offensive star with three hits and two runs batted in, along with two stolen bases. He was on base in the seventh with a single but was trapped between first and second and called out on a disputed interference ruling. Mc Alister led Wytheville batters with three hits. Arnold Davis; who started the game in centerfield, made a spectacular catch of Levigne's long drive in the first inning. Davis leaped into the air to take the long smash against the cen terfield fence and fell backward over the fence with the ball for the game's first out. The Flashers committed five errors afield,, which made it their worst night in defensive play in Memorial Park. Three of the errors were directly ac countable for Wytheville runs. Lose 2 to Mt. Airy Mount Airy Graniteers streng thened their hold on first place Monday night by taking a doable header from North Wilkesboro 4 to 3 and 13 to 3. In the first game Frank Fazio had one rough inning, when Mt. Airy scored, three runs. The Flashers were one run short of a tie in the seventh and final frame. In the second game North Wilkesboro jumped on Pete Treece for two runs in the first but Mt. Airy came back with three in the first off walks is sued by starting pitcher Lee Bentley, who was relieved by Ralph Cunningham. Worth Cuth bertson hurled the final inning. In the first game Manager Tom Daddino was put, out of the game by Umpire Oliver! and Cuthbertson played first base during the remainder of the opener. Tennis Tourney July 25 To 28 Tennis tournament for - Wilkes county and for tennis players from other points who wish to enter will be held in Wilkesboro July 25 through 28, it was an nounced today by Midway Pon tiac company, sponsor. Entries will close at noon July 19 at Midway Pontiac company. There will be two divisions: for boys 13 through 18 and for men over 18. ^ Millers Creek Wins In Exhibition Game Millers Creek defeated Boom er 10 to 2 in a Wilkes county league exhibition game played Monday night in Memorial Park. Bud Nichols pitched effective ly for Millers Creek and Bill Ernest hurled for Boomer. Both teams showed promise of good play during the coming season. o ' j Millard F. Greene Lenoir, June 21.—Millard F. Greene, 57, of Happy Valley, died at noon today. He was a furniture worker in a Lenoir plant for years. Funeral will be held at Stoney Fork Baptist Church i n Watauga County Thursday at 2 p. m. Surviving are his wife, two sons and a daughter.
