Miss Barber to wed Joe Clements, and Miss Church to wed Walter Morphls, Lexing ton, each received corsages and silyer in their patterns. Approxi mately twenty guests among the i younger set came at 5:30 o'clock and during the hour the hostess was aided by her mother, Mrs. J. S. Zimmerman, and Miss Mary ( Louise Clements in serving tempt i ing refreshments. Out of town guest3 at the party were Miss Mary Jewel Jenkins, of Yad kinville, houseguest of Miss Ag nes Ke^erly; and Misses Pat and ' Sue Rees, of Johnston City, Tenn., who are here visiting with their aunt, Miss Georgia Spen cer. Mixed garden flowers made a colorful setting for the guests. Local Women Attend Luncheon Meeting Mrs. Edd F. Gardner and Mrs. Ivey Moore attended & luncheon meeting of the Execu tire Board of the Statesvilie district of the Woman's Society of Christian Service held Thurs day at the home of Mrs. H. A. Poston at Mooresville. Mrs. Gard ner is secretary of Youth Work of the district and Mrs. Moore is a sub-district chairman. Ap proximately twenty women were present and heard reports from 'he Workshop held at Lake Jun aluska this summer, and made some plans for the year's work of the Society. Newton were hostesses at two delightful parties given at the Emerson home in Wilkes boro Friday afternoon and ere-1 nlng. For the first party bridge was played at three tables and rook at two tables. High and low score prises in the bridge game went to Mrs. E. S. Cooper and Mrs. C. B. Eller, and in rook to Mrs. Warner Miller, Sr., and Mrs. H. D. Caudill. Five tables of bridge were in play for the second party with the prizes for high and low scores going to Mrs. Rufus B. Church and Mrs. Don Moffatt. Honor gifts were presented to two brides-elect, Miss Betty Gray Church, who received china, and Miss Lucille Casey, who was giv en silver. Mrs. Gene Bailey, of Williston, Florida, who is here visiting her mother, Mrs. C. G. Poindexter, was also remember ed with a gift. The hostesses served a des sert course at the beginning of play for each occasion, and used quantities of mixed flowers for decorations. Miss Betty Gray Church Given Kitchen Shower A kitchen shower was a de lightful courtesy for Miss Betty Gray Church, popular bride-elect given Thursday evening by Mrs. Wake Clark and Miss Betty Summers at the home of Mrs. Clark. A group of thirteen guests showered the honoree with many useful kitchen articles. Follow ing an informal hour the hos tesses served a salad course with sweets. Two out of town guests of the party were Miss Martha Dalrym ple, of Amory, Miss., and Miss Carolyn Maass, Palm Beach, Fla., houseguests of Miss Billie Moote. Sans Souci Club Met With Mrs. Swofford Mrs. Jack Swofford was hos tess to the members of the Sans Souci club and a few extra guests at her home in Finley Park Thursday evening. The guests, who played bridge at two tables, _were served cold drinks on .ar rival and refreshments during play. Prizes for high and second high scores were won by Mrs. R. H. Shell and Mrs. M. B. Mc Neil. The club presented going away gifts to two of their mem bers, Mrs. A. H. Clark and Mrs. Fred Clark, both of whom -ofte leaving soon for future Resi dences at Wilmington and^,Char lotte. Mrs. Hunt, Miss Church Feted At Tea To honor a bride and a bride elect, Mrs. Lawrence Hunt and Miss Betty Gray Church, Mrs. J. Q. Adams and her two sisters, Mrs. Mu*|?hy Hunt and Mrs. Claude Johnson, entertained at a lovely tea at the Adams home on F Street Thursday afternoon. The guests, consisting mostly of friends of the two honorees, | were received from four until j six o'clock. Mrs. Hunt, the! former Miss Myrtle Norrls, and Miss Church to wed Walter Mor phls, of Lexington, both received from the hostesses corsages and linen. Friends assisting the hostess es at the tea alternated during the first and second hour. Mrs. Joe Pearson and Miss Norma Stevenson welcomed the callers at the door and receiving with the hostess trio and the two hon or guests were Mrs. Stokes Hunt and Mrs'. Rufus B. Church. Mrs. Mary Moore Hix and Mrs. Catherine , Carrington directed guests to the dining room where punch was poured by Mrs. J. M. Crawford and Mrs. Frank Tom linson. Decorations and appointments for the dining room emphasized the bridal' motif of Igreen and white, and' in the living room a pink note jwas predominant. The dining table, spread with a white madferia cloth, was center ed with an arrangement of white flowiers and candles. Millers Creek Home Club Has Meeting Millers Creek Home Demon stration club met July 21 at the home of Mrs. Ruff Dockery as hostess, assisted by Mrs. Q. O. Kllby and Mrs. Allen' Phillips as co-hostesses. Mrs. M. F. Bum garner, president, had charge of the devotionals and presided dur ing the business session. Announcement was made of the Farm and Home Week to be held at Raleigh in August; also the club to have an auction' sale of home-made articles at the regular August meeting. O " Largest Sessions A. S. T. C. History Boone. — The Appalachian State Teachers college is having the largest summer sessions In the history of the" college. For the first six-weeks term, the enrollment was 1069 stu dents. The second term enroll ment is 976. The enrollment in the graduate school for the first term was 283, and for the sec ond term it is 245. The total en rollment for the summer of 528 makes Appalachian one of the large graduate schools in the south. Support Y. M.
