Miss Mary Ann Casey, a stu dent ot Meredith College in Ra leigh, spent Thanksgiving - with her mother, Mrs. A. H. Casey. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Williams. Jr., and children were guests of Mr. Williams' parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Williams, in Hickory Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. -Carl W. Steele and family were guests of Mrs. Steele's father, Mr. W. H. Coe, and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Coe at Rockford Thursday. Miss Jane Carter, a sophomore at Sweet Briar College at Sweet Briar, Va., spent the holiday week-end here with her mother, Mrs. D. J. Carter. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jenrette and children spent the "holiday week-end at Ashevllle as guests of Mr. Jenrette's brother, Mr. J. P. Jenrette, and family, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Gabriel and daughters, Misses Pat and Norma Gabriel, were guests of Mr. Gabriel's brother, Mr. H. G. Gabriel, in Hickory" Thursday. Mr. Bob Miskelly, a patient at the veterans hospital at Johnson City, Tenn., following a leg operation, spent the holiday week-end with his family - here. Miss Nancy Oarwood has re turned to school at Appalachian college at Boone after spending the holidays here with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Gar wood. Sgt. Margaret J. Allen, of Camp Lee, Va., accompanied by Sgt. Onitta Onifather, spent the I Thanksgiving holidays with Sgt. Allen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Allen. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Harmon spent Thanksgiving Day in Win ston-Salem and Sedgefield as guests of their son, Mr. Bill Har mon, who holds a position in Winston-S'alem. Mr. and Mrs. Ira D. Payne and children, Betty Chloe and Sarah Jane, spent Thanksgiving Day at Concord with Mrs. Payne's sister, Mrs. Katie Wine coff, and other relatives. Mrs. Robert Foster discards her usual style and charm when she becomes a fussy, discontent ed common woman of fifty-five ?old fashioned in clothes, coif fure and ideas?in "Night Must Fall." Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hall, of Winston-Salem, spent the holi days week-end with their par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hall of Halls Mills and Mr. and Mrs. John D. McLean, of Cricket. Mrs. Hall is teaching this year at Griffith school near Winston Salem. George M. Cohen knew music ?and he also knew plays. About "Night Must Fall" he said? "The best thrill play I ever saw ?and I've seen 'em all. It takes you by the throat and leaves you gasping." Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lasslter and son, Mr. Edward Lasslter, of Four Oaks, visited here Thanksgiving with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sturdlvant. Mrs. Sturdi vant is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lasslter. Mrs. C. R. Byrd, of Ronda, found a white iris in full bloom last week for Thanksgiving. It was in the north yard and the cold frosty mornings had appar ently not hurt it "I have never seen one bloom at this season be fore," Mrs. Byrd said. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Fowler, of Flushing, N. Y., are visiting here with Mrs. Fowler's mother, Mrs. O. C. Holcomb, and in Statesville with Mr. "Fowler's relatives: Mrs. Holcomb spent Thanksgiving in Statesville with the Fowlers. Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Poindex ter have returned to their home here following a weeks visit in Williston, Fla., with Mr. and Mrs. Gene T. Bailey and Mr. Walter Call. Mrs. Poindexter is the mother of Mrs. Bailey and Mr. Call. Mr.^ and Mrs. W. D. McCor mick and daughter, Judy, of Myrtle Beach, S. C., and Miss Tootsie Derrick, student of Co lumbia College at Columbia, S. C., were guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Derrick here from Wed nesday until Friday. Mr. Der rick is the brother of Miss Toot sie Derrick. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Killian and three children, Jane, Jimmy, and Charles, of Lincolnton; and Miss Beatrice Pearson, -who teaches in Hickory, were here for Thanksgiving visiting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rom H. Pearson. Mrs. Killian and Miss Pearson are the Pearsons' daugh ters. Students of the University of North Carolina who spent the holidays at home were Miss BiUie Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Moore; Mr. Julius Rousseau, Jr., son of Judge and Mrs. J. A. Rousseau; Mr. Gene McNeill, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. B. McNeill; Mr. Jimmy Day, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter M. Day. Dr. and Mrs. W. J.' Caroon, Jr., and son, Joe Taylor Caroon, and Mrs. Caroon's mother, Mrs. H. T. Bore, of Richmond, Va., were here for Thanksgiving with Dr. Caroon's parents, Mr. -and Mrs. W. J. Caroon. Dr. Caroon is an Instructor in the school of destistry at the Medical Col lege of Virginia. - Pfc. George L. Adams spent an eight-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Ad ams of North Wilkesboro, Route I. He has been stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, but is being transferred to Keesler Field in Biloxi, Miss., for an 18-weeks course in flight operations. Mr. W. M. McCulley spent last Wednesday in North Wilkesboro. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Eller and Miss Emma Eller accompanied him to Salisbury where they spent Thanksgiving day with the McCulleys. Mr. Eller returned late Thursday while Mrs. Eller and Miss Eller remained for the week-end. Mr. Lynn Kerbaugh, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Kerbaugh; Mr. Dick'McNiel, son of Mayor and Mrs. R. T. McNiel; Rev. Dean Minton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Minton; Rev. Victor Watts, son of Mrs. Finley Watts, of Purlear; Mr. Jimmie Moore, son of Mrs. ?thel V. Moore; were home from Wake Forest College to spend Thanksgiving at their respective homes. ??? o ? Social Calendar The combined meeting of tiie Woman's Bible dags and the Spiritual Life Group of the North Wilkesboro First Meth odist church will be held Tuesday afternoon, 8:80 o' clock, at the home of Mrs. W. B. Raymer. The Musical Arts club mem bers are asked to note the change in the place of meet ing for the club on Tuesday evening, November 29th. The club will meet in the assembly room of the educational build ing at the Presbyterian church instead of at the Woman's clubhouse as previously an nounced. Eighty per cent of the cotton graded by the Cotton Classing Office in Raleigh from October 1 through October 17 was strict low biddling or better.
