EDITOR Mr. and Mrs. Kilby Give Reception Friday Evening Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Frank lin Kilby entertained at a lovely reception in the ball room of the Wilkes Hotel Friday evenjng, December 30. honoring Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Lott Mayberry, who were married in a home cere mony on Saturday afternoon, De cember 17. Mrs. Mayberry, the former Miss Grace Frank Kilby, is the only daughter ot Mr. and Mrs. Kilby. A large number of friends were received in a festive bridal setting during the hqurs from 8:30 until .10:30. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Spainhour for the first hour, and Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Finley for the second hour presented callers to the first receiving line composed of the hosts and the bridal couple. Dr. and Mrs. C. S. Sink headed the second receiving line which included Mr. and Mrs. Jack Quinn, of Chattanooga, Tenu., uncle and aunt of the bride; Mr. and Mrs. John Mayberry, of Elkin, uncle and aunt of the groom; Misses Norma Stevenson and Toby Turner. Mr. and Mrs. Lomax Kilby, who were married Christmas Day in High Point, were also honored at the reception. The bride is the former Miss Betty Summers, of this city. Mesdames J. B. McCoy, C. E. Jenkins, Tal Barnes, and An drew Casey presided at the bride's table in alternating hours as well as other friends, who as stated Mr. and Mrs. Kilby dar ing the hours of the reception. Serving bridal ices were Mrs. C. T. Dough ton. Misses Mary Charles Alexander, Lota Scroggs, Helen Phillips, Mary Louise Clements, Oorinne Faw, Hilda Hsndren, Peggy Nichols, and Oladys Lomax. In charge of the guest register were Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Somers and Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Carter. Among others assisting else where were Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Bason, Mr. and Mrs. Edd F. Gardner, Mr. and Mrs. Don Story, Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Stout, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Day, Dr. and Mrs. A. C. Chamberlain, Dr. and Mrs. George Verdone, Dr. and Mrs. Livingston Johnston, Win ston-Salem; Mrs. Dan Carter, Misses Jane Carter, Elizabeth Alexander, and Mary Ann Casey. Mr. Charles Sink, Mr. and Mrs W. K. Sturdivant, Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Nelson, Dr. and Mrs. F. C. Hubbard, Mr. nad Mrs. W. D. Halfacre, Miss Nancy Felts. White flowers, white candles, and greenery were used for the decorations and table appoint ments. Three candles, embedded in magnolia leaves, glowed in each window, while palms and two seven-branched floor candle labras formed a background for the bride's table. Centerpiece for the table, spread with a white cloth, was a large bouquet of snapdragons and pom-pons from which extended to the corners garlands of snapdragons and fern caught on white net, and also formed a loop in front. On each end of table was a silver candle holder with five gleam ing candles. White rosebuds and snapdragons decorated the table where the guests registered, and in the lobby were huge arrange ments of snapdragons and fern. Brown-Bullis Engagement Announced Mrs. Nettie Brown, of North Wllkeeboro, Route One, an nounces the engagement of her daughter, Madeline, to H. A. (Bill) Bullis, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. College Students Presbyterian Church Feted At Banquet The college students of the Presbyterian church were honor ed at a banquet given Friday evening in the educational build ing of the church, which was decorated in keeping with the holiday season. Approximately thirty - five were present including the young people of the church, who spon sored the banquet. The dinner, served at seven o'clock, was pre pared by the Women of the church. Following the banquet Miss Ruth King Wood, director of religious education, directed a period of informal entertain ment. Support The Scouts Mrs. Russell Pearson Bridge Club Hostess Mra. Russell Pearson enter tained tor the members ot the Wilabrl bridge club at her home in Wilkesboro Thursday evening. Two tables were made up for bridge, and at the close ot play the hostess served refreshments. Mrs. James Lowe received the prize for top score and Mrs. R E. Dunn the.bingo award. Mrs Marvin Hoffman, a visitor of the club, was remembered with a gift.
