THE JOURNAL-PATRIOT | b Dvdght Nichols, Sports Editor Millers Creek Team Wins In Send Lot Bowl Game 33 to 0 A heavier Millers Creek team defeated a picked team from North Wilkeaboro in the 8and Lot Bowl at Memorial Park on January 1 by a score of 33-0. Millers Creek got 'off to a quick start by covering a North Wilkeaboro fumble on the kick off and going 4# yards in four Playi to score. Clay Osborne went the last yprd and "Foggy" Pierce ran the ..j>oint for a quick 7-0 lead. Pierce plunged five yards to score later in the per iod and Millers Creek lead 13-0 at half time. In the third period. Pierce dived over from the 1 foot line to move the score to 13-0. Ray Church plunged 1 yard and Rex Eller went 12 yards for the last two touch downs. Pierce ran both extra points to make the final count: Millers Creek 33, North Wilkes boro 0. The heavier Millers Creek line held North Wilkesboro in check most of the game. North Wilkes boro drove to the 8 yard line in the fourth- quarter for their on ly serious threat but here the Millers Creek line stiffened, with the team taking the ball on downs. Lineups: Pos. N. W. North Wilkesboro Cagers Lose Close Contest To Elkin Both North Wilkesboro high school basketball teams were edged out at Elkln Tuesday night, the Elkln girls winning 34 to 30 and the Elkln boys find ing themselves ahead one point at the final whistle 28 to 27. In the first game North Wil kesboro girls jumped into an early lead, which was erased by the end of the first period on Sara Parker's sharpshootlng. By halftime Elkln had a ten-point lead but North Wilkesboro pull ed up to within one point at the end of the third quarter. Betty Whicker led the North Wilkes boro girls with 13 points. The boys' game was a thriller throughout and the score was tied several times In the last half. The score was tied 8-8 at the ^nd of the first period, El kln was ahead 12-10 at the half and 20-19 at the end of the third quarter. Wilkesboro Boys Trophill Girls Win Tuesday's Games Wilkesboro high school boysl handed Traphlll boys their first! defeat in eight games Tuesday night in Wilkesboro by the score of 35 to 24. The victory by the Ramblers evened the count for a 40 to 19 defeat handed the Wilkesboro girls by the girls from Traphill. Hoi brook with 18 paced the winning girls' attack while Jar vis scored 14 of Wilkesboro's 19 points. On the accuracy of Dean Ed wards, who rang up a total of 17 points, Wilkesboro boys went) Into an early lead and outplayed the visitors all the way. Troop 32 News The Wilkesboro Boy Scout Troop No. 32 met in the new educational building of the Wil kesboro Baptist church at seven o'clock Monday night with our Scoutmaster, Mr. C. Monroe Wil liams. We discussed our future plans and then had an advance ment program. An afternoon hike was proposed for the 28 th of January. New members present were Mac Stevens and Brownie Os borne.
